Lead Pharmacist - Cancer Services & ASU

Overview
We are looking for an enthusiastic, forward-thinking Pharmacist to join our experienced and friendly team dedicated to providing an advanced clinical Oncology/Haematology service and supply of aseptic products to the Trust. This role will suit candidates experienced in a cancer services role, including experience within aseptics and haematology/oncology.To provide an advanced level clinical pharmacy service to the Oncology and Haematology departments and to support pharmaceutical aspects of the clinical trials service at Bedford Hospital site. To support the Aseptics Team by monitoring and checking chemotherapy and to be an active member of the Oncology Pharmacy team and help meet the overall strategic objectives of the team in the provision of pharmaceutical care for cancer and medical patients.Responsibilities
Provide an advanced level clinical pharmacy service to the Oncology and Haematology departments.Support pharmaceutical aspects of the clinical trials service at Bedford Hospital site.Monitor and check chemotherapy and parenteral nutrition products to appropriate standards after training; ensure GMP is followed in pharmacy Aseptics and that monitoring/record-keeping is carried out.Advise on pharmaceutical care of cancer and general medical patients to patients, relatives and health professionals; liaise with medical and nursing staff on the Primrose Oncology Unit, Haematology Department and Day Treatment Unit (DTU).Assist in training of pharmacists to clinically verify chemotherapy prescriptions and supervise dispensing activities; participate in Oncology Business Meetings and promote multidisciplinary working.Contribute to Aseptics/Haematology/Oncology training, audits and drug usage reviews; provide period end activity reports for the Principal Pharmacist.Prepare and submit applications for new haematology/oncology SACT or NHS funding; manage Cancer Drugs Fund activities and provide monthly chemotherapy statistics for funding and CIU data submission.Assist with running of the chemotherapy e-prescribing system (iQemo) and review protocols; undertake line management of a specialist pharmacist within Pharmacy Aseptics; be GCP trained to support Clinical Trials.Work with the Principal Pharmacist and Clinical Trials Pharmacist on audits, budgeting considerations for new SACT drugs, and responding to new initiatives relevant to SACT.Provide supervision and guidance to Pharmacy staff involved in the ASU and promote safe medication use; contribute to the Pharmacy clinical risk programme.Screen/finally check clinical trial prescriptions for safety and accuracy; promote cost-effective, high-quality prescribing in line with local and national guidelines.Engage in clinical audits, practice research and other project work; undertake oncology/clinical trial training as required (e.g., Diploma/MSc/Independent Prescribing/GMP).Note: may include duties to be undertaken as directed by the Chief Pharmacist or Deputy.Qualifications
