Interim Group Financial Controller
Interim Group Financial Controller
Central Birmingham | Short-Term Contract | Immediate / Short Notice Start
We are supporting a business based in Central Birmingham with the appointment of an experienced Interim Group Financial Controller for a short-term assignment.
This is a hands-on role for a technically strong finance professional who can hit the ground running, quickly understand the existing group finance environment and bring greater consistency, control and discipline to the function.
The business requires an experienced contractor who is comfortable operating in a fast-paced environment, identifying gaps quickly and delivering practical improvements without needing a lengthy bedding-in period.
The assignment
The Interim Group Financial Controller will take ownership of key financial control activities across the group, with a particular focus on standardising processes, strengthening controls and improving the consistency of financial reporting.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Reviewing the existing group finance processes and control environment.
- Identifying control gaps, inconsistencies and areas requiring immediate improvement.
- Standardising month-end, balance sheet and reporting processes across multiple entities.
- Strengthening reconciliations, accounting controls and financial reporting disciplines.
- Ensuring accurate and timely month-end and year-end close.
- Supporting complex technical accounting matters and ensuring appropriate accounting treatment.
- Improving the quality and consistency of group reporting.
- Supporting statutory reporting, audit requirements and year-end processes where required.
- Documenting and embedding robust processes that can be maintained by the permanent finance team.
- Working closely with senior finance and operational stakeholders to implement change quickly and effectively.
The ideal contractor
We are looking for an ACA, ACCA or CIMA qualified accountant with a strong technical accounting and financial control background.
You will ideally have:
- Significant experience operating at Financial Controller or Group Financial Controller level.
- Previous interim, contract or transformation assignment experience.
- Strong technical accounting knowledge.
- Experience working within multi-entity or group environments.
- A proven track record of improving and standardising finance processes and controls.
- Strong balance sheet, month-end and statutory reporting experience.
- The ability to quickly diagnose issues and implement practical solutions.
- Confidence operating independently and challenging existing ways of working.
- A pragmatic, hands-on approach with the ability to deliver at pace.
This role would suit a seasoned finance contractor who is comfortable stepping into an established function, quickly getting under the skin of the numbers and processes, and delivering tangible improvements over a relatively short period.
The successful individual will be expected to add value from day one, combining strong technical accounting capability with the experience and judgement required to strengthen the wider group finance function.
