Haven has an opportunity for an experienced and driven individual to take on a role as Head of Finance and Operations. Haven is an independent charity (established 1975) that provides specialist services in Sheffield for children and young people affected by domestic abuse. Supporting over 500 individuals each year, our mission is to take action and deliver creative solutions that adapt to the changing needs of children and young people affected by domestic abuse, to break down barriers, intervene early, and provide support guided by a trauma informed and child-centred approach.About the RoleHaven is seeking a dynamic and experienced

Head of Finance and Operations

to join our Senior Leadership Team. This pivotal role will help shape the strategic direction of the charity, ensuring financial sustainability and operational excellence as we deliver on our core mission. You will lead on all aspects of financial management, governance, HR, and operational systems, and line manage the Finance Coordinator and Office Coordinator. You will also oversee relationships with external consultants (accountancy, payroll, HR, IT, insurance and fundraising).This is a varied and hands-on role, ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment and enjoys problem-solving, strategic thinking, and supporting a committed team.Key Responsibilities

Provide strategic financial advice to senior management and the Board to support decision-making and organisational development.Manage restricted and unrestricted funding and lead on financial aspects of grant applications and monitoring.Oversee operational delivery, including HR processes (recruitment, induction, appraisals, pay reviews) with support from our HR consultant.Ensure compliance with statutory obligations and facilitate effective governance through liaison with the Board and management of Board affairs.Act as Data Protection Officer and ensure robust internal controls and risk management procedures are in place.Line manage the Finance Coordinator and Office Coordinator and oversee financial and administrative functions.Support the development and implementation of internal policies and procedures.Produce project budgets and financial reports for funders and external stakeholders.Our Commitment

Essential criteria (highlights):1. Knowledge and Training: Proven experience in finance and operations management, ideally within a small charity, with at least 5 years’ experience of working in a senior finance position.1.3 Awareness of equal opportunities and an ability to address discrimination.1.4 Awareness of the policies and procedures required within the finance sector.1.5 Experience in developing and delivering reports to the board of trustees.1.6 Experience in grant management, including budgeting and reporting on restricted/unrestricted funds.1.7 Ability to provide operational support, including contract management.1.8 Lead financial planning, budgeting, and reporting, including management accounts, cash flow, and year-end financial statements in line with SORP regulations.1.9 Experience working with Boards on governance and strategic planning.1.10 Knowledge of charity audit processes.1.11 Experience supporting organisational growth and development.1.12 Experience in line management.1.13 Experience of working with external consultants.1.14 Experience collaborating with fundraising teams.1.15 Experience in managing data protection policies and processes.1.16 Experience in managing an HR external advice service to support policies and procedures.2. Skills and Abilities: Strong interpersonal and team-working skills, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a positive attitude and problem-solving approach. Highly organised with excellent attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities. Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, ability to explain complex financial information clearly, and to represent Haven in partnerships. Resilient, self-motivated, and able to work on own initiative in a changing environment. Good IT and CRM system proficiency.
