Graduate Town Planner

Cambridge | Permanent | Competitive salary + benefits

Are you a recent graduate looking to build your career in town planning with a respected multidisciplinary consultancy?

I''m currently working with a well-established property and planning consultancy in Cambridge that is looking to appoint a Graduate Town Planner to join its growing team.

This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated graduate to gain hands-on experience across a varied portfolio of planning projects, working alongside experienced planners and property professionals while developing towards a successful long-term career in the sector.

The role

As a Graduate Town Planner, you''ll support the team across a broad range of planning instructions, gaining exposure to both strategic and development management work.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Assisting with the preparation and submission of planning applications.
  • Supporting planning appraisals and research for development opportunities.
  • Undertaking planning policy research and reviewing local planning documents.
  • Assisting with the preparation of planning statements, reports and other written submissions.
  • Liaising with local planning authorities, clients and other consultants.
  • Supporting senior colleagues on a variety of residential, commercial and rural planning projects.
  • Attending meetings, site visits and planning committees where appropriate.
  • Building your knowledge of the planning system and developing your professional network.

About you

We''re looking for a proactive and enthusiastic graduate who is keen to establish themselves within the planning profession.

You''ll ideally have:

  • A degree in Town Planning, Planning & Development, Geography or a related discipline.
  • A genuine interest in the built environment and UK planning system.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Good research, analytical and organisational abilities.
  • The confidence to work collaboratively while also managing your own workload.
  • A positive, commercial and solutions-focused approach.
  • A full UK driving licence would be advantageous, given the potential for site visits.

Previous planning experience is beneficial but not essential. What matters most is your enthusiasm to learn, willingness to take responsibility and ambition to develop your career.

Why consider this opportunity?

You''ll be joining an established and supportive team where you''ll have the opportunity to work on a diverse range of projects from day one. The role offers excellent exposure to experienced professionals, varied client work and the opportunity to develop the practical skills needed to progress within the planning profession.

The Cambridge location also provides an exciting environment in which to develop your career, with a strong property and development market and a wide range of planning activity across the region.

If you''re a graduate with a genuine passion for town planning and are looking for your first opportunity with a forward-thinking consultancy, I''d be very keen to hear from you.

Apply now for a confidential discussion about the role and your next career move.
