As a GP, youll be the first point of contact for patients, providing safe, effective and compassionate care. Youll consult with patients on a wide range of health needs, manage ongoing conditions, and support prevention and wellbeing. A key part of the role is building trusted, long-term relationships with patients and families, while working closely with colleagues across the practice and wider healthcare system. Youll balance clinical care with shared responsibilities for administration and contribute to the continuous improvement of services.About us

The following are the core responsibilities of the Salaried GP. There may be, on occasion, a requirement to carry out other tasks; this will be dependent upon factors such as workload and staffing levels:The delivery of highly effective medical care to the entitled populationThe provision of services commensurate with the GMS contractGeneric prescribing adhering to local and national guidanceMonitor and ensure the safe storage, rotation and disposal of medicinesImplement and evaluate individual specialised treatment plans for chronic disease patientsDemonstrate effective communication skills, supporting people in making decisions, planning care or seeking to make a positive changeIdentify, manage and support patients at risk of developing long-term conditions, preventing adverse effects to the patients healthMaintain accurate clinical records in conjunction with extant legislation and to ensure SNOMED CT codes are used effectivelyDevelop and implement robust governance systems and contribute to practice targets (QOF, Enhanced services etc.), complying with local and regional guidanceActively engage in peer review to inform own and others practice, formulating and implementing strategies to act on learning and make improvementsSupport the team in dealing with clinical emergenciesSupport the team with all safeguarding matters in accordance with local and national policiesUnderstand practice and local policies for substance abuse and addictive behaviour, referring patients appropriatelyDeliver opportunistic health promotion where appropriateActively seek feedback and involvement from individuals, families, carers, communities and colleagues in the co-production of service improvementsProcessing of administration in a timely manner, including referrals, repeat prescription requests and other associated administrative tasksOn a rotational basis, undertake duty doctor roleMaintain accurate clinical records in conjunction with good practice, policy and guidanceWork collaboratively, accepting an equal share of the practice workloadAdhere to best practice recommended through clinical guidelines and the audit processAccept delegated responsibility for a specific area (or areas)Attend and contribute effectively to practice meetings as requiredContribute effectively to the development and maintenance of the practice including clinical governance and trainingEnsure compliance with the appraisal processPrepare and complete the revalidation processCommit to self-learning and instil an ethos of continuing professional development across the practice teamSupport the training of GP registrars, medical students from all clinical disciplinesSupport the partners in achieving the strategic aims of the practice, making recommendations to enhance income and reduce expenditureReview and always adhere to practice protocols and policiesEncourage collaborative working, liaising with all staff regularly, always promoting a culture of continuous improvementIn addition to the primary responsibilities, the salaried GP may be requested to:Participate in practice audits as requested by the audit leadParticipate in local initiatives to enhance service delivery and patient careParticipate in the review of significant and near-miss events applying a structured approach i.e., root cause analysis (RCA)Liaise with clinical rota manager and maintain an effective clinical staff rota ensuring all clinics are staffed appropriately. Working flexibly to provide cover during annual leave and sickness.Participate in local initiatives to enhance service delivery and patient careSupport and participate in shared learning within the organisationContinually review clinical practices, responding to national policies and initiatives where appropriateParticipate in the review of significant and near-miss events applying a structured approach i.e., root cause analysis (RCA)Commensurate with their role, support the development of clinical services within the organisation, liaising with external agencies and professional organisations as requiredPerson Specification
