GENERAL PRACTITIONER FIXED TERM (6 SESSIONS)

We are a 9 Doctorforward thinking training practice, seeking an enthusiastic individual to joinour committed multidiscipline teamWe are currentlylooking to offer a fixed term post for a salaried GP 3 days a week (6 sessions) from October 25 for Maternitycover - for an expected 6 months duration.We are situated inmodern premises with onsite pharmacy and ample parking and good commuting linksjust off A470, 15 minutes from Cardiff, close to the modern housingdevelopments and facilities to the west of Caerphilly at the foot of Caerphillymountain.We have a growinglist size (currently 10,000 patients) and a branch surgery in Senghenydd.We are a teachingpractice (GP registrars, undergraduate doctors and pharmacists) so we are in agood position to offer support to newly qualified GPs coming out of training.Currently we useEMISweb and are a paper light practice.Please submit your CV to Andrew.langley@wales.nhs.uk . Job summary:Thepost-holder will manage a caseload and deal with a wide range of health needs ina primary care setting, ensuring the highest standards of care for allregistered and temporary patients.Clinical responsibilities:In accordancewith the practice timetable, as agreed, the post-holder will makehim/her-self available to undertake a variety of duties including surgeryconsultations, telephone consultations and queries, visiting patients athome, checking and signing repeat prescriptions and dealing with queries,paperwork and correspondence in a timely fashionMakingprofessional, autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems,whether self-referred or referred from other health care workers withinthe organisationAssessing thehealth care needs of patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosedproblemsScreeningpatients for disease risk factors and early signs of illnessIn consultationwith patients and in line with current practice disease managementprotocols, developing care plans for healthProvidingcounselling and health educationAdmitting ordischarging patients to and from the caseload and referring to other careproviders as appropriateRecording clearand contemporaneous consultation notes to agreed standardsCompiling andissuing computer-generated acute and repeat prescriptions (avoidinghand-written prescriptions whenever possible)Prescribing inaccordance with the practice prescribing formulary (or generically)whenever this is clinically appropriateIn general thepost-holder will be expected to undertake all the normal duties andresponsibilities associated with a GP working within primary care.Other responsibilitieswithin the organisation:Awareness of andcompliance with all relevant practice policies/guidelines, e.g.prescribing, confidentiality, data protection, health and safetyA commitment tolife-long learning and audit to ensure evidence-based best practiceContributing toevaluation/audit and clinical standard setting within the organisationContributing tothe development of computer-based patient recordsContributiontowards practice evidence based audits, QOF, CEPP , NCN auditsDeputising forother partners during leaveSharing of house calls and paperworkContributing tothe summarising of patient records and read-coding patient dataAttending andcontributing to weekly partnersmeetings, monthly clinical meetings, bimonthly staff/gp meetings,Quarterly palliative care meetings. This will include (but will not be limitedto):Using personal security systemswithin the workplace according to practice guidelinesAwareness of national standards ofinfection control and cleanliness and regulatory / contractual /professional requirements, and good practice guidelinesProviding advice on the correctand safe management of the specimens process including collection,labelling, handling, use of correct and clean containers, storage andtransport arrangementsCorrect personal use of PersonalProtective Equipment (PPE) and ensuring correct use of PPE by others,advising on appropriate circumstances for use by clinicians, staff andpatients.Management of the full range ofinfection control procedures in both routine and extraordinarycircumstances (e.g. pandemic or individual infectious circumstances)Hand hygiene standards for selfand othersManaging directly all incidents ofaccidental exposureManagement and advice relating toinfection control and clinically based patient care protocols, andimplementation of those protocols across the practiceActive observation of currentworking practices across the practice in relation to infection control,cleanliness and related activities, ensuring that procedures are followedand weaknesses / training needs are identified, escalating issues asappropriate to the responsible personIdentifying the risks involved inwork activities and undertaking such activities in a way that managesthose risks across clinical and patient processMaking effective use of trainingto update knowledge and skills, and initiate and manage the training ofothers across the full range of infection control and patient processesMonitoring practice facilities andequipment in relation to infection control, ensuring that proper use ismade of hand cleansing facilities, wipes etc, and that these aresufficient to ensure a good clinical working environment.
