Freedom of information Complaints officer

About the Role
One of mylocal goverment clients-is seeking a knowledgeable and proactive Freedom of information Complaints officer-to lead on all matters related to information governance, including complaints, Freedom of Information (FOI) requests, Subject Access Requests (SARs), and GDPR compliance.
As the main point of contact for these areas, you will play a key role in advising senior management, service leads, and, where applicable, schools on relevant legislation and internal processes.
Key Responsibilities

Act as the internal expert for FOI, SARs, complaints, and GDPR matters within Hackney Education

Liaise with the LBH Information Management Team and Legal Team to ensure compliance with law and best practice

Provide expert advice to senior managers, officers, and schools regarding information requests and data protection

Coordinate and monitor responses to Freedom of Information requests, ensuring legal compliance and quality

Support the complaints process, including routine guidance to officers and compiling performance reports

Work collaboratively with teams across the Children & Education Directorates to promote best practices
Candidate Requirements

Previous experience handling FOI, SARs, complaints, and GDPR in a public sector or education setting

Strong understanding of the Data Protection Act 2018, GDPR, and related regulations

Excellent communication and coordination skills

Ability to provide guidance to stakeholders at all levels

Experience with information governance within a local authority or educational institution is highly desirable
