Financial Controller

Here at Beyond Talent Solutions, we''re partnering with a well-established and growing SME based on the outskirts of Preston to recruit a Financial Controller. This is a key leadership position within the business, offering the opportunity to take ownership of the finance function, support strategic decision-making, and lead a small finance team. Working closely with senior stakeholders, you will play a vital role in ensuring accurate financial reporting, robust financial controls, and the continued development of finance processes that support growth. This role would suit an experienced accountant who enjoys balancing hands-on financial management with commercial involvement across the wider business.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead, develop and support a small finance team.
• Prepare and deliver timely monthly management accounts.
• Produce financial reporting, analysis and commentary for senior leadership.
• Manage budgeting, forecasting and cash flow reporting.
• Monitor financial performance and provide meaningful variance analysis.
• Maintain and strengthen financial controls, processes and procedures.
• Ensure balance sheet reconciliations are completed accurately and on time.
• Oversee VAT returns and statutory compliance requirements.
• Support annual audit processes and year-end reporting.
• Partner with operational managers to provide financial insight and support decision-making.
• Identify opportunities to improve systems, reporting and efficiencies across the finance function.
• Support business planning, profitability analysis and future growth initiatives.

About You

• Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent), part Qualified, or QBE will also be considered
• Previous experience in a Financial Controller, Finance Manager, or similar senior finance role.
• Strong experience producing management accounts and financial reporting.
• Proven ability to lead and develop finance staff.
• Excellent understanding of financial controls and accounting principles.
• Strong Excel and financial systems knowledge.
• Commercially minded with the confidence to challenge and influence stakeholders.
• Hands-on, proactive and comfortable working within an SME environment.
