PositionDirector of Finance. The University of London is seeking a Director of Finance to lead the Finance Department and support delivery of the University’s strategic objectives. Reporting to the Pro Vice-Chancellor (Finance and Operations), the Director of Finance has overall responsibility for the University’s Finance Department and will drive financial performance, strengthen financial management, and deliver value for the University and its communities.

Responsibilities

Lead the Finance Department, ensuring delivery of high-quality financial services across the University.

Drive the development and implementation of the University’s Finance Strategy, aligning financial planning with strategic ambitions.

Provide clear, expert advice and guidance to the Vice-Chancellor’s Executive Group, the Board of Trustees, and University Committees.

Build strong relationships with banks, auditors, investment, treasury, and tax advisors, and with key internal stakeholders.

Ensure financial sustainability through effective reporting, treasury management, planning, and oversight of financial operations.

Lead major Finance projects and foster a culture of continuous improvement and innovation.

Act as a member of the Vice-Chancellor’s Executive Group, contributing to the broader leadership of the University.

About You / QualificationsThe successful candidate will be an experienced and inspirational finance leader who combines technical expertise with strong strategic and interpersonal skills.

CCAB-qualified accountant with significant post-qualification experience.

Senior leadership experience in a complex, dynamic organisation of comparable scale.

Strong track record of improving financial performance and leading change.

Ability to influence at Board and Executive level, with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Proven experience of leading high-performing finance teams and embedding a culture of accountability and service excellence.

Commercial acumen with excellent analytical skills and the ability to balance strategic vision with operational detail.

Experience of managing transformation and change within finance functions.

Leadership and Personal Qualities

Gravitas, integrity, and strong influencing skills to constructively challenge and build credibility with senior stakeholders.
