Engineering Manager - Electronics 
Salary: £70,000 - £90,000 (DOE)
 
We are currently recruiting for an Engineering Manager to join an established and technically driven engineering business. This is a senior leadership position reporting directly to the CTO, with responsibility for developing the engineering function and providing the structure, process and leadership required to take products from prototype and development through engineering approval, project delivery and productionisation.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced engineering leader who combines strong technical capability with commercial awareness, people leadership and a structured approach to project and product delivery.
 
The Role
 
As Engineering Manager, you will lead and develop the engineering function, working closely with engineering, operations, production and customers to ensure products are developed, validated and successfully transitioned into production.

You will be responsible for introducing effective engineering processes and project discipline while maintaining the flexibility and innovation required within a technically focused environment.

You will work alongside highly technical and R&D-led engineers, providing leadership, direction and structure while supporting the continued development of the engineering team.
 
Key Responsibilities

• Lead, manage and develop the engineering team, providing clear direction, coaching and mentoring.
• Work closely with the CTO to develop and strengthen the engineering function.
• Manage multiple engineering and product-development projects from prototype through to production.
• Drive structured NPI and productionisation activity.
• Introduce and maintain effective engineering processes, systems and project controls.
• Ensure appropriate engineering approval, verification, validation and documentation processes are followed.
• Work closely with Engineering, Operations and Production to ensure products are ready for manufacture.
• Support the transition of products from development into a repeatable production environment.
• Engage with customers and internal stakeholders to understand requirements and support technical delivery.
• Provide leadership and structure around engineering priorities, resources and project delivery.
• Encourage continuous improvement across engineering processes and product development.
• Work collaboratively with highly technical and R&D-focused individuals to turn innovative concepts into deliverable products.
• Support the development and progression of engineers within the team.

The Candidate

• The successful candidate will be an experienced Electronics Engineering Manager, Senior Engineering Manager or similar senior engineering leader with a strong background in product development and NPI.
• You will ideally have experience working with embedded electronics and electromechanical products, with meaningful exposure to both hardware and software.
• You will be a structured and organised leader who values engineering discipline and process, but who understands the importance of innovation and technical creativity.
• You will be comfortable operating across technical and commercial environments and able to communicate effectively with engineers, operations teams, production, senior management and customers.

Essential Experience

• Electronics engineering background with meaningful exposure to hardware and software.
• Previous experience leading and developing an engineering team.
• Experience managing multiple engineering or product-development projects.
• Strong product development, NPI and productionisation experience.
• Strong project-management capability.
• Experience introducing structure, process and engineering discipline within a technical environment.
• Ability to work effectively across Engineering, Operations, Production and Customers.
• Strong communication, leadership and people-management skills.
• High level of emotional intelligence and the ability to build strong working relationships.
• Comfortable working alongside highly technical and R&D-led individuals.

• Embedded software / firmware
• Electromechanical products
• Sensors and instrumentation
• Industrial controls
• Off-highway or mobile equipment
• Automotive electronics
• Industrial electronics
• Safety-critical or safety-related embedded systems
• Functional safety and relevant engineering/compliance standards
• Systems developed from customer requirements through design, verification, validation and customer approval
• New product introduction and productionisation of complex engineered products
