SESLHD Drug and Alcohol Service offers a range of treatment and support services for people with problems from their alcohol, prescription or illicit drug use, and/or their families and carers. Outpatient DandA services are located in clinics at the Langton Centre in Surry Hills, St George Hospital in Kogarah, and Caringbah Community Health Centre at Sutherland Hospital. Inpatient DandA services are provided at Sydney Hospital, Prince of Wales, St. George and Sutherland Hospitals. Our goal is to improve health, wellbeing and social outcomes for individuals, families and the community, related to drug and alcohol use.
The Clinical Nurse Consultant – Drug and Alcohol is primarily located at the St George Drug and Alcohol Service and works closely with the Service Manager to deliver senior leadership in the coordination and delivery of community treatment services, including opioid agonist treatment and ambulatory care services. The position works collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team to provide assessment, treatment, support, crisis intervention, care planning and evaluation of care in line with the NSW Health Clinical Care Standards: Alcohol and Other Drug Treatment.
The Clinical Nurse Consultant – Drug and Alcohol delivers clinical leadership and education, and participates in research and clinical services planning in line with the criteria for a Clinical Nurse Consultant Grade 1 as per the NSW Public Health System Nurses and Midwives (State) Award.
The position may be required to work across multiple SESLHD Drug and Alcohol Service locations.

Selection Criteria
Current Authority to Practice as a Registered Nurse, Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia.Minimum five years full time equivalent post graduate qualifications experience and a post graduate qualification relevant to the drug and alcohol nursing specialty, or such other qualifications or experience deemed appropriate by the public hospital or public health organisation.Proven clinical leadership skills and an ability to work collaborate within a multidisciplinary frame work with a demonstrated commitment to excellence in nursing practice.Demonstrated effective communication and inter-personal skills across a variety of mediums and knowledge of the practice development framework to clinical practice.Demonstrated involvement in the development /change of clinical practice underpinned by evidence based research.Demonstrated ability to contribute to strategic and clinical service planning.Proven skills in clinical teaching, the identification of education needs in the clinical area, and competency in the use of contemporary information systems.Ability to apply clinical expertise in client-centred consultancy with the ability to work independently.
