Start immediately in this highly rewarding Behaviour Mentor for a specialist secondary school in Rochdale.
An immediate start is available, offering an excellent opportunity to join an experienced team and make a real difference to pupils with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), ADHD and Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.
About the Role
You will provide 1:1, small-group and classroom support, helping pupils manage their emotions, develop positive behaviours and overcome barriers to learning.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Supporting pupils with ASC, ADHD, SEMH and challenging behaviour.
- Building positive, trusting relationships with pupils.
- Using effective behaviour management and de-escalation strategies.
- Supporting emotional regulation and establishing consistent routines.
- Remaining calm and resilient during challenging situations.
- Working closely with teachers, pastoral teams and SEN professionals.
- Encouraging engagement with learning, confidence and independence.
- Maintaining a safe, structured and inclusive learning environment.
The Ideal Candidate
We are looking for someone who is:
- Patient, consistent and resilient under pressure.
- Confident supporting young people with challenging behaviour.
- Experienced in SEN, SEMH, behaviour support, youth work or education.
- A strong communicator who can build positive professional relationships.
- Proactive, flexible and committed to improving pupil outcomes.
Experience in a specialist school, residential setting, care environment or behaviour support provision would be advantageous.
De-escalation and physical intervention training, such as Team Teach, would be highly desirable due to the challenging behaviour expectations within this role. Candidates with existing restraint or positive handling training are particularly encouraged to apply. Applicants without this training may also be considered, depending on their experience.
