Are you a resilient, proactive and empathetic individual passionate about helping young people overcome barriers to learning?
A specialist Alternative Provision in Oldham, are looking to add a Behaviour Mentor.to their team, supporting students aged 11-18 with additional needs and behavioural challenges. This is an excellent opportunity to make a meaningful difference by helping young people build confidence, develop positive behaviours and re-engage with education.
About the School
The provision supports secondary and post-16 students who may have struggled in mainstream education due to Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) and behavioural difficulties.
The school offers a structured, nurturing environment with small class sizes, consistent routines and a strong pastoral framework. Staff work collaboratively to provide tailored support, helping students develop emotional regulation, resilience and the skills needed for future success.
Key Responsibilities
As a Behaviour Mentor, you will:
- Provide 1:1 and small-group behavioural and pastoral support.
- Support students experiencing challenging behaviour and emotional dysregulation.
- Build positive, trusting relationships while maintaining clear professional boundaries.
- Encourage positive coping strategies, emotional regulation and appropriate behaviour.
- Promote engagement in learning and structured activities.
- Implement behaviour strategies in line with school policies.
- Work closely with teachers, support staff and external professionals.
- Contribute to behaviour plans and monitor student progress.
The Ideal Candidate
We are looking for someone who has:
- Experience supporting young people with SEN, SEMH or behavioural needs.
- A calm, patient and resilient approach to challenging situations.
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
- Confidence promoting positive behaviour and emotional wellbeing.
- A proactive, flexible and cohesive attitude.
- A genuine commitment to helping young people achieve positive outcomes.
Experience in Alternative Provision, specialist SEN schools or youth support settings would be advantageous.
