Assistant Financial Controller

Hirexo are working with a rapidly growing FMCG business headquartered in West London, located close to Hammersmith underground station (District, Piccadilly, Circle and Hammersmith & City lines). With ambitious plans to continue scaling in the UK, Europe, and the US, the client is looking to appoint an Assistant Financial Controller who is Big 4 / Big 6 qualified and has a minimum of 2-3 years'' post-qualification industry experience to support their next stage of development.

The Opportunity for the Assistant Financial Controller
This is a key leadership role within the Finance team, reporting directly to the Finance Director, who in turn reports to the Managing Director. The Assistant Financial Controller will take ownership of group-level reporting and consolidation, ensuring accuracy, clarity, and compliance across multiple international entities. This is a hands-on role with scope to manage and mentor a small finance team, including exposure to international team management. The role is hybrid, requiring 3 days per week in the Hammersmith office and 2 days working from home.
 
Key Responsibilities for the Assistant Financial Controller

• Prepare and consolidate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements under IFRS and/or US GAAP.
• Oversee intercompany reconciliations across subsidiaries, ensuring timely resolution of variances.
• Manage external audit processes and coordinate with tax advisors across multiple jurisdictions.
• Maintain the group chart of accounts, ensuring accounting consistency internationally.
• Enhance internal controls, processes, and policies, supporting continuous improvement.
• Provide technical accounting guidance on complex transactions and new accounting standards.
• Manage and mentor the finance team, supporting development and succession planning.
• Partner with senior stakeholders across Europe and the US to deliver accurate and timely reporting.
• Support ad-hoc strategic projects as required by the Finance Director and Managing Director.

What You''ll Need to Succeed as the Assistant Financial Controller

• Fully qualified accountant (ACA / ACCA / CIMA / CPA).
• Big 4 or Big 6 background in the UK is essential, along with a minimum of 2-3 years'' post-qualification industry experience.
• Strong technical knowledge of IFRS and UK and US GAAP, with excellent consolidation experience.
• International exposure, ideally working across European and US reporting lines.
• Experience within FMCG, manufacturing, or e-commerce is desirable but not essential.
• Advanced Excel and financial reporting skills, with experience in ERP systems.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to provide clarity in reporting.
• Team management experience is essential; international team leadership is desirable.
• A proactive and hands-on approach, with the ability to take initiative and deliver in a fast-paced environment.

The Package for the Assistant Financial Controller

• Salary of £55,000 to £65,000 depending on experience
