OverviewSite Technician – Highways Planned Maintenance
Location: Manchester (M12) • Job Type: Temporary • Working Hours: 07:00 – 16:00 • Pay Rate: £17.60 – £33.00 per hour
Join the Highways Service team at the Neighbourhoods Directorate in Manchester City Council, where you will play a crucial role in the design, programming, and delivery of planned maintenance works across approximately 450 sites annually. This role is ideal for someone with a strong background in highways maintenance, looking to apply their expertise in a dynamic environment.
Responsibilities
Assess sites for inclusion in future maintenance programmes.
Supervise contractors to ensure the safe and high-quality delivery of works.
Resolve day-to-day site issues and liaise with stakeholders to ensure smooth operations.
Investigate and respond to complaints related to works.
Maintain accurate site records and report progress to Engineers.
Inspect completed works and identify necessary remedial actions.
Provide technical, financial, and contractual advice on maintenance projects.
Prepare and track work packages using asset management systems such as Symology, Confirm, and Kaarbontech.
Measure and evaluate subcontractor performance and ensure accurate documentation.
Stay informed on industry innovations and apply best practices to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
Required Skills and Qualifications
Extensive experience in highways maintenance, including resurfacing and reconstruction.
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
Excellent planning and organisational skills.
Effective communication and negotiation skills.
Proficiency in ICT systems for data analysis and reporting.
Familiarity with highway asset management systems.
Understanding of health and safety regulations and contract management.
HNC in Civil or Highway Engineering or equivalent experience in highway construction and maintenance.
