Are you an experienced Teaching Assistant who is passionate about supporting young people who have struggled to engage within mainstream education? Do you have the resilience, patience and confidence to work with pupils who may present with challenging behaviour or complex social and emotional needs?
Tradewind Recruitment are currently seeking an Alternative Provision Teaching Assistant to join a specialist AP setting in Milton Keynes. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced TA, Learning Mentor, Behaviour Support Worker or youth worker who wants to work in a smaller, more personalised educational environment where building positive relationships is at the heart of the role.
The provision supports young people who may have experienced difficulties within mainstream education and require a different approach to learning. Pupils may present with SEMH needs, behavioural challenges, low confidence, anxiety, ADHD, ASC or other barriers to engagement.
As an AP Teaching Assistant, you will play an important role in helping pupils re-engage with education, develop their confidence and make positive progress both academically and personally.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Supporting pupils within lessons and providing 1:1 or small-group intervention where required.
- Building positive, consistent relationships with pupils and acting as a trusted and reliable member of the support team.
- Supporting pupils with SEMH and behavioural needs, using a calm and consistent approach.
- Encouraging pupils to engage with learning and helping them recognise and celebrate their progress.
- Supporting classroom behaviour and helping to maintain a safe, structured and positive learning environment.
- Working alongside teachers and pastoral staff to implement individual strategies and support plans.
- Helping pupils develop their communication, social skills, independence and confidence.
- Providing encouragement and reassurance to pupils who may have had negative experiences of education.
The ideal candidate will be resilient, patient and adaptable, with the ability to remain calm when faced with challenging situations. You will understand that behaviour is often a form of communication and be confident using positive, restorative and relationship-based approaches.
Previous experience within Alternative Provision, SEN schools, mainstream schools, SEMH settings, residential care, youth work or behaviour support would be highly desirable. A relevant TA qualification is advantageous but not essential if you have strong relevant experience.
