Youth Support & Behaviour Mentor – Teaching Assistant
SEMH Teaching Assistant / Behaviour Mentor
Location: Blythe Bridge, Stoke-on-Trent
Pay: -95 - -120 per day depending on experience
Contract: Full-time, long-term
Start: ASAP
Are you experienced working with young people, challenging behaviour, SEMH or additional needs?
Perhaps you''re currently working as a Teaching Assistant, Behaviour Mentor, Youth Worker, Residential Support Worker, Support Worker or Learning Mentor.
Or maybe your experience comes from somewhere completely different. Ex-military, ex-police, prison officers, probation, residential care, sports coaching, youth work, outreach or other roles involving young people and challenging behaviour can all transfer extremely well into this type of environment.
We are looking for a SEMH Teaching Assistant / Behaviour Mentor to join a specialist provision supporting young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.
This is not simply a classroom assistant role. You will be working closely with young people who may present with challenging behaviour, emotional regulation difficulties, barriers to learning and complex needs, helping them to engage with education and develop the confidence and skills they need to progress.
The role
As an SEMH Teaching Assistant / Behaviour Mentor, you will:
- Build positive, consistent relationships with young people
- Support pupils with SEMH, behavioural and emotional needs
- Help manage and de-escalate challenging behaviour
- Provide 1:1 and small-group support where required
- Encourage engagement with learning and classroom activities
- Act as a positive role model and trusted adult
- Support pupils with emotional regulation and behaviour strategies
- Work alongside teachers and the wider pastoral team
- Help create a calm, structured and positive learning environment
- Encourage resilience, independence and positive choices
Who are we looking for?
We are interested in people who have experience as a:
Teaching Assistant | Behaviour Mentor | Learning Mentor | Youth Worker | Youth Support Worker | Residential Support Worker | Support Worker | Behaviour Support Worker | Outreach Worker | Pastoral Worker | Sports Coach | Prison Officer | Probation Worker | Police Officer | Military / Armed Forces
You do not necessarily need previous experience as a Teaching Assistant.
What matters is that you are calm, resilient, consistent and confident working with young people, particularly where behaviour can be challenging.
Experience of SEMH, SEN, challenging behaviour, trauma, safeguarding, de-escalation, youth work, residential care, alternative provision or supporting vulnerable young people would be highly beneficial.
Why consider this role?
This could be an excellent opportunity if you''re looking to move your experience into education.
For example, if you''re currently working in residential care and want to move away from shift work, this could offer the opportunity to work within school hours while continuing to use the skills you''ve developed supporting young people.
Likewise, if you''ve worked in the military, police, prison service, probation, youth services, sport or community support, your experience of communication, boundaries, resilience, teamwork and behaviour management could be extremely valuable in this environment.
You don''t need to have followed the traditional route into education. If you know how to build relationships, maintain boundaries and support young people through difficult situations, we''d like to hear from you.
Interested?
If you''re an experienced Teaching Assistant, SEMH Teaching Assistant, Behaviour Mentor, Youth Worker, Support Worker or someone with transferable experience from care, custody, military, police, sport or youth work, apply today.
Revolve Collective will be in touch to discuss the role and your experience in more detail.
