The pupils have usually experienced some form of trauma, neglect or chaotic home life or all of these things. Your role is to build a connection with the young people and act and a mentor and role model for the students. You must have a strong TA or Tutoring background with students from PRUs or SEMH schools, and you also need to drive and have access to your own car for this role. Due to the barriers the pupils have in the classroom, the role will entail forging strong relationships with pupils. The role will see you using lots of mentoring skills (similar to that used in sports, drama, counselling) to help the individual engage with the school.
