Job Title: Sheet Metal Workshop Manager

Reports To: Operations Manager / Production Manager

Job Summary
The Sheet Metal Workshop Manager is responsible for overseeing daily operations within the sheet metal fabrication workshop. This role ensures efficient production, high-quality output, safe working practices, and effective team management. The manager coordinates workflow, supervises staff, maintains equipment, and ensures projects are delivered on time and within budget.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage day-to-day workshop operations, including fabrication, assembly, and finishing processes
- Plan and schedule production to meet customer deadlines and operational targets
- Supervise, train, and support workshop staff, including fabricators, welders, and machine operators
- Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations and company policies
- Monitor quality standards and implement continuous improvement initiatives
- Coordinate with engineering, sales, and procurement teams to ensure smooth project execution
- Oversee material usage, stock levels, and ordering requirements
- Maintain workshop equipment and arrange servicing or repairs as needed
- Track productivity and performance metrics, identifying areas for improvement
- Resolve technical and operational issues within the workshop
- Conduct performance reviews and manage staff development
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Proven experience in sheet metal fabrication or manufacturing environment
- Previous supervisory or management experience
- Strong knowledge of fabrication techniques (cutting, bending, welding, forming)
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications
- Excellent leadership and team management skills
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities
- Good organizational and time management skills
- Familiarity with workshop machinery (press brakes, guillotines, laser cutters, etc.)
- Knowledge of health and safety regulations in a manufacturing environment
- Proficiency in basic computer applications (production planning, spreadsheets, etc.)
Preferred Qualifications
- Relevant technical certification or apprenticeship in sheet metal fabrication
- Experience with lean manufacturing or continuous improvement methods
- First aid or health & safety certification
- Experience with ERP or production planning software
Working Conditions
- Workshop-based role with regular exposure to machinery and noise
- Requires use of personal protective equipment (PPE)
- May involve occasional overtime to meet production deadlines
