Job Title: Workshop Fitter
Location: Wednesbury, West Midlands
Salary: Up to £40,000
Travel: Up to 10% – day travel only
We’re currently recruiting on behalf of a well-established and respected client in the construction equipment sector, who is seeking an experienced Workshop Fitter to join their team in Wednesbury. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with a solid background in heavy plant or vehicle maintenance, particularly with experience in volumetric concrete mixers or similar machinery.
About the Role
As a Workshop Fitter, you’ll be responsible for the maintenance, servicing, refurbishment, and repair of various makes and models of volumetric concrete mixers. The role is predominantly workshop-based, though you may be required to attend customer sites on occasion. Your technical expertise will be vital in ensuring machinery is kept in top working condition and in helping identify and resolve equipment issues.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out routine servicing, maintenance, and repair of concrete mixers.
- Maintain a high level of technical knowledge across all relevant systems, including electrical, hydraulic, and mechanical components.
- Undertake occasional site visits to carry out servicing or repairs at customer locations.
- Keep accurate service and repair records, including parts used and work completed.
- Assist with root cause analysis of faults and contribute to continuous improvement.
- Ensure all work meets quality and safety standards.
- Work flexibly, including occasional out-of-hours work where required.
Essential Experience & Skills:
- Proven experience as a fitter or technician working with heavy plant or construction equipment (e.g. CAT, JCB, Komatsu, John Deere).
- Strong diagnostic skills with electrical systems.
- Good working knowledge of hydraulics and basic welding.
- Competent in following health & safety best practices.
- Previous experience with volumetric mixers is a distinct advantage (Desirable)
- MIG welding (Desirable)
Working Conditions
- This role involves physical work and outdoor exposure. The ideal candidate must be comfortable with the following:
- Regular standing, walking, bending, and use of hands/arms.
- Lifting and moving items up to 30kg.
- Working at heights (up to 5 metres) and in confined spaces when necessary.
- Working outdoors for prolonged periods, regardless of weather conditions.
- Use of ladders and access equipment where required.
