Workshop Controller

Our client is a fast-growing organisation within the plant and equipment hire industry. Due to continued growth, they are now seeking an experienced Workshop Controller to join our team.
As a Workshop Controller, you will play a key role in ensuring plant repairs and servicing are completed to a high standard and within agreed timescales. Acting as the first point of contact for workshop management, you will coordinate and plan responses to breakdowns, routine maintenance, and service requests. This is a dynamic and fast-paced role that requires strong organisational skills, technical knowledge, and the ability to communicate effectively with both customers and colleagues.
Workshop Controller Job Overview
- Provide telephone support to triage and resolve breakdowns where possible.
- Coordinate fitter attendance and aim for first-time fix solutions.
- Log, allocate, and track repairs, maintaining accurate service and stock records.
- Liaise with third-party repair companies where necessary, raising POs and approving invoices.
- Support fitters with information, parts, and scheduling to maximise efficiency.
- Book and manage service and inspection appointments with customers.
- Work with the Hire Desk to ensure plant availability and arrange replacements where required.
- Identify chargeable damage repairs, order parts, and process customer invoicing.
- Maintain stock records, service schedules, and breakdown logs.
Workshop Controller Job Requirements
- Previous experience in a service or maintenance control role (essential).
- Strong organisational and problem-solving skills with a logical approach to prioritising.
- Excellent communication skills, confident telephone manner, and customer service focus.
- High attention to detail and ability to work well under pressure.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and good time management skills.
- Enthusiastic, proactive, and committed to high-quality work standards.
- Experience in plant equipment or construction sectors (desirable).
