Workshop & Service Manager
We''re looking for a hands-on Workshop & Service Manager to join a close-knit team. This is an exciting opportunity for either an experienced Workshop/Service Manager or a Senior Engineer looking to take the next step into a leadership role.

This role is primarily based at our Barnsley workshop, so applicants should live within a reasonable commuting distance.
About the Role
You''ll take responsibility for supervising and supporting the clients workshop and field engineers while remaining actively involved in the installation, servicing and commissioning of their advanced electronic vehicle weighing systems.
As a small, specialist business, our client provides HGV complete end-to-end solutions incorporating sophisticated hardware and software. Their products are highly technical, so a willingness to learn and undertake ongoing training is essential.
You''ll play an important role in driving productivity, maintaining high standards of workmanship, supporting engineers with technical challenges, and helping to develop and improve our service processes as the business continues to grow.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, supervise and support workshop and field-based engineers.
- Provide technical guidance, problem solving and day-to-day leadership.
- Ensure safe working practices and compliance with company procedures.
- Carry out installation, servicing and fault diagnosis of their advanced electronic systems across the Waste/Mobile Weighing and Construction divisions.
- Support field service activities when required.
- Monitor workshop productivity and ensure projects are completed to planned timescales.
- Maintain excellent housekeeping standards throughout the workshop, leading by example.
- Provide regular progress updates to senior management on service and installation activities.
- Contribute to installation planning and continuous improvement of service processes.
- Gather and communicate customer and engineer feedback to support product quality and development.
- Maintain specialist company tools and your own professional tool kit.
- Deliver outstanding customer service
- Undertake relevant training to further develop your knowledge and skills.
About You
We''re looking for someone who combines strong technical ability with excellent leadership and communication skills.
You''ll ideally have experience in one of the following backgrounds:
- HGV electrical systems
- Mobile weighing systems
- Weighbridge or industrial weighing equipment
You will also have:
- Excellent fault-finding and diagnostic skills.
- Strong IT skills with confidence using software-based systems.
- Excellent communication and people management skills.
- The ability to motivate and support engineers while maintaining high standards.
- A proactive attitude with a passion for improving processes and driving continuous improvement.
- A strong desire to learn new technologies and products.
- A full UK driving licence.
Holiday: 23 days annual leave, increasing to 25 days with service, plus Bank Holidays
