Wireman

Rubicon Consulting-is currently recruiting for a Wireman on a Short term Contract, based in London.

Role Summary

To carry out safe, accurate, and high-quality cable glanding and termination works within electrical substations, ensuring all installations meet project specifications, industry standards, and safety regulations.

Key Responsibilities

1. Cable Glanding

• Install and secure cable glands for LV, MV, and control cables.
• Prepare cable ends correctly (stripping, armour preparation, bedding removal).

2. Cable Terminating

• Terminate LV and MV power cables.
• Terminate control, protection, and instrumentation cables.
• Connect cables to switchgear, transformers, protection panels, marshalling kiosks, and distribution boards.
• Ensure correct crimping of lugs using calibrated crimping tools.

3. Substation Installation Work

• Install and connect cables to:
  • Transformers
  • Switchgear panels
  • Protection and control panels
  • CT/VT panels
  • Battery chargers and DC systems

4. Quality & Compliance

• Work in accordance with:
  • Project drawings and cable schedules
  • Method statements and risk assessments
  • Electrical standards (e.g., IEC, BS, or local standards)

5. Health & Safety

• Follow site safety procedures and permit-to-work systems.
• Use appropriate PPE at all times.

Requirements

Essential:

• Recognized electrical qualification (e.g., NVQ Level 2/3, City & Guilds, or equivalent).
• Proven experience in substation cable glanding and terminating.
• Experience working on LV and MV systems.
• Valid safety certification (e.g., CSCS/ECS card or equivalent).

Desirable:

• Substation experience (11kV / 33kV / 132kV).
• First Aid certification.
• IPAF / PASMA (if working at height required).
