THE BUSINESS
  
Our client supplies fertiliser products to the agriculture market. Operating from 11 strategic sites providing full UK coverage.  Key to their strategy is a continuous programme of innovation and product development aimed at improving nutrient efficiency and farmer returns on fertiliser.
  
This role is for a Welding/Fabrication Engineer with a general mechanical aptitude, utilising skills and competencies on site projects and refurbishments, general fabrication and supporting engineering activities.
  
This role combines workshop working within field service project-based installation and site maintenance work. You will work to fabricate new installations, deliver essential site-based improvement works and respond to site engineering issues. You will essentially fabricate key site infrastructure in the workshop and then fit this within site locations, addressing any issues at source.
  
Although most of your working time will be spent Welding & Fabricating in the local workshop, there is a degree of travel in this role covering the whole of the UK.  As a guideline, you can typically expect to be working away for around a 1/3 of the year (Monday to Thursday). Large projects tend to be 12-16 weeks continually working away and a smaller project can typically be 1-2 days or up to several weeks working away.
  
Working in the Operations structure, Projects & Engineering Team, providing ‘hands on’ support nationally covering 11 site locations. Predominantly working on projects and improvements, you will report to, work alongside and take lead from the Projects & Engineering Supervisor.
  
  
THE ROLE
  
Fabrication and Welding
  • Working to fabricate and assemble fixed plant components from drawings; e.g. conveyors, platforms, handrails, bucket elevators, chutes, hoppers, floorplates, stairways, ladders etc, structural framework to mount equipment and machinery.
  • Carry out all necessary cutting (including gas and plasma), grinding, dressing and drilling to enable the building of structures and the installation of plant equipment.
  • Carry out equipment modifications.
  • Repairing damaged and defective parts/equipment
  
Project and Engineering Support
  • Prioritising workload within agreed schedules.
  • Contributing towards the design, development and modification of new and current site equipment.
  • Interacting with sub-contractors during project or site R & M scope of work.
  
Site Maintenance and Repair Support
  • Carrying out safety inspections of site fixed plant.
  • Providing on-site engineering assistance as required.
  • Carrying out inspections of site fixed plant machinery during site visits.
  • Delivering mechanical assembly duties to aid project installations.
  • Contributing toward increasing employee competency regarding plant preventative maintenance.
  
Compliance
  • Supporting the Projects & Engineering Manager and Supervisor during site projects.
  • Referring to standards and procedures for plant construction/fabrication, repairs and maintenance.
  • Complying with company health, safety, environmental and welfare policies.
  • Adhere to company maintenance and repair standards.
  • Completing relevant documentation.
  
  
  
THE PERSON
  
  • Nationally recognised welding/fabrication/engineering qualification.
  • Qualified and competent in welding techniques such as MIG, TIG and MMA. Predominantly using mild and stainless steel and dissimilar types.
  • 5 years + working in a welding and fabrication discipline with ideally an engineering skill.
  • Full driving licence.
  • A good understanding of the requirements of Health & Safety.
  • Plant removal and construction experience.
  • Willing to work away from home, to support projects, or site R&M requirements. Usual pattern Monday a.m. to Thu p.m. but ultimately determined by timeframes and deadlines.
  • Flexible and willing attitude, assisting with other project scopes of work.
  • Self-motivated and driven toward achieving targets and objectives, possessing good organisational skills and a flexible approach to working times and patterns.
  • Acceptance of travel during weekdays, on occasions at short notice.
  • Willing and able to work at height
  • Strong communication and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to work effectively and efficiently either independently or as part of an integrated team.
  • I.T. literate – not essential as training can be provided.
  • Willing to train and further develop skills and competencies within general engineering including hydraulics, compressed air systems, mechanical maintenance and basic electrical multi-skilling, etc.
