We are currently partnered with a well-established engineering company based in Portsmouth, renowned for their work in marine, offshore maintenance, repair, and shipbuilding. Their operations span across military, commercial shipping, and energy sectors, providing high-quality fabrication, installation, and maintenance solutions.

Due to ongoing project demands, particularly a split barge project and upcoming marine refit work, we are seeking an experienced Welder/Fabricator to join the team on a long-term basis, with a strong view to permanent employment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform MIG and MAG welding on mild steel components for marine and offshore structures

  • Fabricate and weld steel plates of various thicknesses to high-quality marine-grade standards

  • Interpret and work from technical and engineering drawings to ensure accurate fabrication

  • Carry out burning/cutting operations using Oxy-Propane equipment

  • Assist in fabrication, installation, repair and modification of marine structures and equipment

  • Support dry dock and shipyard repair activities, including shell plating, structural stiffeners, and reinforcement work

  • Operate general workshop machinery and hand tools, including:

    • Guillotines

    • Hydraulic steel workers

    • Angle grinders and gas torches

  • Carry out work in both workshop and in-situ on marine vessels, occasionally in confined spaces and at heights

  • Maintain safe working practices in accordance with company HSE procedures and site-specific safety protocols

Essential Requirements:

  • Proven experience in MIG & MAG welding of mild steel in a marine or heavy industrial environment

  • Ability to support both workshop-based fabrication and onboard vessel repairs and modifications

  • Competency in steel burning, measuring, marking out, and assembly techniques

  • Full UK Driving Licence

  • Willingness to work occasional weekends, and travel for short durations to support offshore or dockside projects if required

  • Eligibility to work on MOD sites – successful candidates must be able to pass BPSS security clearance (arranged and funded by the client)

  • A strong work ethic, ability to work independently or as part of a team in a fast-paced environment

Desirable (but not essential):

  • Current or previous MOD site experience

  • Familiarity with Lloyds or DNV welding standards

  • Confined space or working at height certifications

  • Experience with marine vessel repairs, e.g., split barges, workboats, ferries, or offshore support vessels

Working Hours:

Monday to Friday: 07:00 – 17:30
Overtime: Paid at time and a third from 15:30 – 17:30

Breaks:

  • Morning: 10:00 – 10:15

  • Lunch: 13:00 – 13:30

This is a great opportunity for a welder who wants to be part of a dynamic, fast-growing engineering business at the heart of the UK’s marine and offshore maintenance industry. If you’re a hands-on, reliable and experienced fabricator with a marine or heavy engineering background – we want to hear from you.
