Job Summary

Our client is seeking an experienced Project Manager to lead the delivery of water and wastewater infrastructure projects across a range of capital investment programmes. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing projects from inception through to completion, ensuring delivery is achieved safely, on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards.

Working closely with clients, design partners, operational teams, subcontractors, and key stakeholders, the Project Manager will oversee all aspects of project delivery including health and safety, programme management, commercial performance, quality assurance, environmental compliance, and team leadership.

Principal ResponsibilitiesHealth, Safety & Wellbeing
  • Lead the implementation of all health, safety, and welfare requirements across project activities.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, company procedures, and industry standards.
  • Review and approve Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS).
  • Conduct regular site inspections and audits.
  • Ensure site inductions, toolbox talks, and workforce briefings are completed and recorded.
  • Promote a positive safety culture across all project teams.
Client & Stakeholder Management
  • Act as the primary point of contact for clients and stakeholders.
  • Maintain regular communication regarding project progress, risks, and opportunities.
  • Manage technical queries, contractual correspondence, and change control processes.
  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with clients, supply chain partners, and operational teams.
  • Support successful project handover, including O&M documentation, as-built records, and health & safety files.
Project Delivery
  • Manage the safe and efficient delivery of water and wastewater infrastructure projects.
  • Develop and maintain project programmes and resource plans.
  • Monitor project progress, costs, risks, and performance.
  • Coordinate subcontractors, suppliers, and internal teams to achieve project objectives.
  • Identify and implement solutions to mitigate project risks and delays.
Commercial & Contract Management
  • Support the commercial management of projects, including variations, compensation events, and valuations.
  • Monitor project costs and contribute to financial reporting and forecasting.
  • Ensure compliance with contract requirements and company procedures.
  • Work collaboratively with commercial teams to maximise project performance.
Quality & Environmental Management
  • Implement robust quality assurance processes and maintain project records.
  • Ensure works are delivered in accordance with specifications, standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Promote sustainable construction practices and environmental compliance.
  • Drive a zero-defect approach to project completion.
Leadership & Team Management
  • Lead, motivate, and develop project teams.
  • Manage workforce performance and productivity.
  • Coordinate subcontractor activities and ensure works are completed to the required standards.
  • Foster a collaborative and high-performing project environment.
Candidate RequirementsEssential
  • Proven experience delivering water and/or wastewater infrastructure projects.
  • Strong understanding of civil engineering and utility construction practices.
  • Experience managing multidisciplinary teams and subcontractors.
  • Knowledge of NEC contracts.
  • SMSTS.
  • CSCS Card.
  • First Aid Qualification.
  • Full UK Driving Licence.
  • Excellent communication, organisational, and stakeholder management skills.
Desirable
  • HNC/HND/Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related discipline.
  • Temporary Works Supervisor/Coordinator.
  • EUSR Water Hygiene.
  • Membership of a recognised professional institution (ICE, CIWEM, APM).
  • Experience working within AMP programmes and regulated utility environments.
