The Role
We are looking for an experienced Water Mains Engineer based in the Midlands to join our expanding team.
The role involves diagnosing leaks and completing repairs, renewals and installations of domestic and commercial water supply pipes. You will attend both planned and reactive jobs, working independently and as part of a team to deliver safe, efficient and high-quality work.
You will be responsible for assessing faults, determining the most appropriate repair method and completing all associated excavation, backfilling and surface reinstatement.
Key Responsibilities
- Diagnose and locate leaks on domestic and commercial water supply systems.
- Use leak-detection equipment, CAT and Genny equipment, and pipe locators.
- Locate, excavate and repair leaking or damaged water supply pipes.
- Carry out water service pipe renewals and new installations.
- Use trenchless installation techniques, including moling and pipe bursting.
- Complete groundworks, including excavation, backfilling and compaction.
- Reinstate surfaces such as tarmac, concrete, block paving and gravel.
- Carry out site assessments and determine appropriate repair solutions.
- Complete job sheets, photographs and customer reports accurately.
- Ensure work complies with water regulations, company procedures and health and safety requirements.
- Communicate professionally with customers, technical support staff and colleagues.
- Maintain the company vehicle, tools and equipment in a clean and serviceable condition.
Essential Requirements
- Previous experience as a Water Mains Engineer or Leak Detection Engineer.
- Proven competence in external water supply pipe repairs and renewals.
- Experience with moling, pipe bursting or other trenchless installation methods.
- Full UK driving licence.
- Ability to work independently at domestic and commercial properties.
- Good fault-finding and problem-solving skills.
- Strong customer service and communication skills.
- Ability to maintain accurate digital and written job records.
- Flexibility to travel throughout the Midlands and surrounding areas.
- Willingness to undergo a DBS check.
Qualifications
Applicants should hold relevant qualifications or demonstrable competencies, ideally including:
- EUSR National Water Hygiene Card.
- EUSR SHEA Water.
- NCO Water Level 2 - Service Pipe Repair and Renewal.
- NRSWA Street Works Operative qualification.
- Leak-detection training or equivalent practical experience.
