Join Thames Water as a Business Manager within our Wastewater and Bioresources Operations Team, where you’ll play a key role in driving strategic priorities and supporting decision-making at the highest level.In this dynamic and high-profile position, you’ll act as a trusted advisor and strategic partner to the Wastewater and Bioresources Director, helping to shape and deliver initiatives that have a real impact across the business. This is a unique opportunity to influence direction, foster collaboration, and ensure the leadership team is focused on what matters most. This pivotal role will provide leadership, oversight, and coordination across key initiatives, ensuring that the Wastewater and Bioresources Director’s time and focus are directed towards the highest-value opportunities. You will be highly proactive, resourceful, and adaptable, with the ability to show resilience and act with sound judgement and emotional intelligence.

Role responsibilities

Strategic Partnership : Provide insight, counsel, and support to the Director on critical business decisions and priorities.

Leadership Coordination : Align and coordinate across the Wastewater and Bioresources leadership team, acting as a central point of contact for senior stakeholders.

Project Oversight : Lead the planning and execution of strategic initiatives and cross-functional projects.

Governance and Meetings : Facilitate leadership and governance forums, setting agendas, driving accountability, and tracking actions.

Insight and Influence : Deliver high-quality analysis, reports, and briefings to support decision-making.

Stakeholder Engagement : Build strong relationships internally and externally, occasionally representing the Director at key engagements.

Team Support : Provide operational and strategic support to the leadership team, promoting a culture of performance and collaboration.

Working arrangementsWorking hours

are 36 hours a week, Monday to Friday.

Base location

will be Clearwater Court in Reading, Berkshire, but flexibility will be required as travel across the Thames Water estate will be essential and frequent.

What should you bring to the role?The essential criteria to help you succeed in this role are:

Be a strategic thinker with proven experience in a senior advisory or leadership role (e.g. management consulting, strategy, operations, or senior executive support).

Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to influence and engage at all levels.

Be collaborative and approachable, with a natural ability to build trust and credibility.

Exceptional organisational and time management skills, with the ability to balance multiple priorities.

Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive information with discretion.

Proven track record of managing complex projects and delivering results.

Valid UK driver’s licence and use of a car for business purposes.

Additional skills and experiences

Experience within the Water Sector

Familiarity with governance, compliance, and board-level reporting.

Postgraduate qualification (MBA, MSc, or equivalent) desirable but not essential.

What’s in it for you?

Salary between £55,000 and £75,000 per annum, depending on skills and experience.

26 days holiday per year, increasing to 30 with length of service (plus bank holidays).
