US / UK Cross Border Tax Senior Manager

OverviewA Senior Tax Manager is expected to manage a large and varied portfolio of clients with complex US and/or UK tax affairs, ensuring excellent client service from both compliance and advisory standpoints, whilst signing out most completed tax returns. They will have several staff allocations, some of whom they will directly manage and be expected to influence their development. They will carry out role model appropriate behaviours reflecting EY''s core values and be responsible for ensuring billing expectations are met.

Responsibilities

Run their allocated client list, ensuring clients receive a high level of service.

Plan and delegate work in advance.

Lead the billing processes and ensure deadlines are met.

Work with the Credit Control team to secure prompt payment of invoices.

Carry out accurate and complex final reviews, minimising risks and maintaining high standards.

Sign out completed tax returns as agreed with senior staff.

Have sufficient knowledge of other areas of tax (e.g., estate/gift tax, IHT and corporate tax) to identify when to involve other experts within the company.

Demonstrate continued development of management skills, providing support and guidance to allocated junior staff.

Ensure the development of allocated staff and handle personnel issues with guidance from HR.

Ensure all compliance work meets expected standards and delivers an excellent level of client service.

Ensure all clients receive an exceptional level of service and are prompted to meet deadlines when necessary.

Model appropriate behaviours reflecting EY values and maintain confidentiality of information.

Work flexibly as part of the EY team and assist colleagues to support the efficient operation of the practice.

Qualifications and Experience

Qualified member of the Association of Taxation Technicians (ATT) and qualified to practice US tax (Enrolled Agent or CPA). A CTA qualification is desirable but not compulsory.

Ability to work well under pressure and be well organized.

Minimum of 5 years’ experience in practice.

Proven experience in gaining tax experience at a similar level within a practice.

Experience of providing a high standard of service to clients face-to-face and via phone/email.

Experience with the full range of client tax requirements and with billing processes.

Experience in signing out US/UK tax returns and managing junior staff.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Attention to detail and accuracy.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Strong numerical ability and ability to interpret financial data.

Solid IT skills.

Ability to build strong working relationships with colleagues.

Ability to persuade and push back respectfully when dealing with difficult clients.

Ability to work both in a team and independently.

Willingness to support colleagues and provide assistance when required.
