Are you passionate about making a difference in the lives of young people? We are currently seeking dedicated and compassionate Tutors and Mentors to support children and young people in Hythe and across Hampshire.
About the Role
You will be working with young people who may:
- Have Special Educational Needs (SEN)
- Be Looked After Children (LAC)
- Experience bullying, anxiety, medical needs, or have been excluded from school
Your role will be to provide tailored tutoring and mentoring that supports both their academic progress and personal development.
- Location: Hythe and surrounding areas (in-person)
- Hours: varied
- Start Date: September
- Duration: Ongoing, with potential for long-term support
Flexible Hours
Vacancies range from 2 to 15 hours per week, typically during school hours. Examples:
- 5 hours: 1 hour/day (Mon-Fri)
- 10 hours: 2 hours/day (Mon-Fri)
- 15 hours: 3 hours/day (Mon-Fri)
You can combine multiple sessions across different young people to build your schedule.
As a Tutor you will:
- Focus on core subjects (Maths, English, Science), with occasional requests for other subjects
- Assess gaps in knowledge and deliver creative, engaging sessions based on their interests
- Build rapport through games and activities before introducing structured learning
- Submit weekly reports via our tutor portal detailing engagement and progress
- Help build confidence, self-esteem, and life skills
- Act as a positive role mode
About you:
- Minimum 1 year of experience teaching or supporting young people in a UK educational setting
- Able to provide relevant references
- Passionate, patient, and committed to supporting vulnerable young people
Essential & Desirable Qualifications:
- Minimum of 1 year of experience working within UK schools- ESSENTIAL
To be eligible for this role through Prospero teaching, you must:
- Hold right to work in the UK
- Hold an enhanced child barred list DBS certificate registered with the online update service or be willing to process a new application
- Provide references upon request
- Possess up to date Safeguarding Training (or a willingness to undertake this)
