Tutor (Alternative Provision)

Are you a dedicated, compassionate and resilient educator who thrives on making a difference in the lives of young people? Prospero Teaching are seeking to appoint a fantastic Alternative Provision Tutor to work 1:1 with a young person in Year 9, currently on a partial school timetable, who needs support to reintegrate into full-time classroom learning.
About the Learner:
- At risk of permanent exclusion (PEX) and in need of a positive, consistent adult relationship.
- Currently working at a Year 6 level in English and Maths.
- Has SEMH (Social, Emotional, and Mental Health) needs and may become emotionally dysregulated.
- Tuition will begin with a focus on engagement and trust-building, gradually introducing academic content.
- The goal is to support their transition back into full-time education in the next academic year.
As an Alternative Provision Tutor you will:
- Deliver 1:1 tuition for 15 hours per week (flexible timing)
- Create a safe, supportive learning environment
- Tailor sessions to meet the learner''s academic and emotional needs
- Work collaboratively with other professionals involved in the learner''s care
About you:
- Minimum 1 year of experience in UK schools as a TA, SEN TA, Cover Supervisor, Teacher, SENCO, or similar
- Experience supporting learners with SEMH needs
- Skilled in de-escalation and emotional regulation strategies
- Patient, empathetic, and able to build rapport and trust
- Confident in delivering KS2-level Maths and English, and engaging PSHE content

Hours - 10 Hours per week- for the right candidate, this can be increased to full time with additional tuition opportunities
Essential & Desirable Qualifications:
- Minimum of 1 year of experience working within UK schools- ESSENTIAL
Trauma-informed and skilled in de-escalation and emotional regulation strategies- Desirable
To be eligible for this role through Prospero teaching, you must:
- Hold right to work in the UK
- Hold an enhanced child barred list DBS certificate registered with the online update service or be willing to process a new application
- Provide references upon request
- Possess up to date Safeguarding Training (or a willingness to undertake this)
