Transport Planner
Location: West Midlands
Salary: £33,000 – £36,000 per annum
Job Type: Full-time, Permanent
The Role
We’re currently recruiting for an experienced Transport Planner to join a busy and growing transport operation.
You’ll be responsible for planning daily transport movements, coordinating drivers and vehicles, and making sure collections and deliveries run as smoothly and efficiently as possible.
This is a fast-paced role suited to someone who enjoys problem-solving, is confident communicating with drivers and customers, and can stay organised when plans change at short notice.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan daily transport schedules and allocate work to drivers
- Coordinate vehicles and trailers to meet operational requirements
- Monitor deliveries and collections throughout the day
- Keep in regular contact with drivers, customers and internal teams
- React quickly to delays, breakdowns and changes to planned routes
- Monitor driver hours and ensure operations remain compliant
- Maintain accurate transport and operational records
- Liaise with customers regarding delivery and collection requirements
- Monitor vehicle availability and assist with fleet planning
- Identify opportunities to improve vehicle utilisation and reduce unnecessary mileage
- Support the wider transport operation with general administration and reporting
PLEAS NOTE THIS ROLE WILL REQUIRE YOU TO WORK EVERY OTHER SATURDAY.
About You
The successful candidate will ideally have:
- Previous experience in Transport Planning, Logistics or a similar operational role
- A good understanding of UK transport operations
- Knowledge of drivers' hours and transport compliance
- Strong geographical knowledge of the UK
- Excellent organisational and time-management skills
- Good communication and problem-solving abilities
- The ability to remain calm and make decisions under pressure
- Strong attention to detail
- Confidence using Microsoft Office and transport planning systems
- The ability to work both independently and as part of a wider team
Desirable Experience
- Experience within HGV transport, haulage or general fleet operations would be advantageous.
- Experience with transport management systems, working with subcontractors or coordinating HGV drivers would also be beneficial.
- A Transport Manager CPC qualification would be highly advantageous and may attract a salary towards the top end of the range.
