About the Role
Pertemps Edinburgh Contracts is recruiting a Transport Officer for a public sector client based in Edinburgh city centre. This full-time, temporary position runs for six months, offering £25.36 per hour, with a start date at the end of July. Working 36 hours weekly, Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm, you will coordinate pedestrian safety, traffic management, and temporary transport measures for major festivals and city events. The role involves liaising with Council teams, emergency services, transport operators, contractors, and event organisers to ensure safe and efficient movement. You will plan and deliver road and pedestrian arrangements, requiring strong organisational and communication skills to manage diverse stakeholders effectively.

We are seeking an experienced Transport Officer to support the planning and delivery of safe, efficient movement across major festivals and city events in Edinburgh.
About the Role
You will lead on the coordination of pedestrian safety, traffic management, and temporary transport measures for large-scale events, working across multiple agencies including Council teams, emergency services, transport operators, contractors, and event organisers.
Key responsibilities:
- Plan and deliver pedestrian and road safety interventions for major events
- Develop traffic management plans, pedestrian flow strategies, and TTROs
- Produce traffic management drawings and impact assessments
- Lead on project governance using recognised methodologies
- Prepare briefings, reports, and committee papers for senior stakeholders
- Chair operational meetings and represent the Council professionally
- Liaise with multi-agency partners including emergency services and contractors
- Communicate transport changes to residents and businesses
- Oversee installation of temporary infrastructure (signage, barriers, crossings, etc.)
- Conduct site inspections, risk assessments, and operational monitoring
- Coordinate contractors and ensure safe, timely delivery of works
- Support procurement, budgeting, and project administration
- Collect and analyse traffic and pedestrian movement data
- Produce post-event evaluations and recommendations
- Experience in transport planning, event operations, traffic management, or public safety
- Strong stakeholder management across multi-agency environments
- Project management experience (APM / PRINCE2 desirable)
- Strong understanding of crowd and pedestrian safety principles
- Excellent communication and organisational skills
- Ability to work under pressure in fast-paced environments
- Experience managing budgets and financial forecasting
- Understanding of local government frameworks
- Confidence engaging with senior stakeholders and elected members
This is a fast-paced, operational role involving tight deadlines and changing priorities, particularly during live events. Some site-based work will be required during event delivery periods.
