The Role
We are recruiting on behalf of our client for an experienced Transport Manager to lead and oversee their transport operation in Andover.
This is a hands-on management role responsible for ensuring the efficient day-to-day running of the transport department, maintaining compliance across the fleet, managing drivers, and delivering excellent service levels to customers.
The successful candidate will hold a Transport Manager CPC and have a strong understanding of transport legislation, fleet compliance, and operational planning.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee the daily operation of the transport department.
- Ensure full compliance with Operator Licence undertakings and all relevant transport legislation.
- Manage and support a team of drivers, conducting regular performance reviews and investigations where necessary.
- Monitor driver hours, Working Time Directive compliance, and tachograph management.
- Plan and optimise vehicle utilisation and route efficiency.
- Work closely with customers and internal stakeholders to ensure service levels are maintained.
- Manage vehicle maintenance schedules, inspections, and defect reporting procedures.
- Investigate accidents, incidents, and compliance issues, implementing corrective actions where required.
- Monitor transport costs, fuel usage, and operational performance.
- Produce management reports and KPI data.
- Identify opportunities for continuous improvement within the operation.
Essential Requirements
- National or International Transport Manager CPC.
- Previous experience managing a transport operation.
- Strong knowledge of UK transport legislation, driver hours, and Operator Licence requirements.
- Experience managing drivers and transport administration teams.
- Excellent organisational and communication skills.
- Ability to make decisions in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong IT skills, including Microsoft Office and transport management systems.
Desirable Requirements
- Experience within pallet network, general haulage, distribution, or multi-drop operations.
- Knowledge of fleet maintenance compliance.
- Experience with telematics and route optimisation software.
- Health and Safety qualifications would be advantageous.
