Transport Manager
Salary: £44,000 - £55,000 per annum (plus benefits)
Hours: 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday
Location: Waltham Forest, London, E10 7AS
As a Transport Manager at FCC Environment, you will hold statutory responsibility as the nominated Transport Manager on the Company’s Operator’s Licence. This role is exclusively focused on ensuring the entire transport undertaking operates safely and in full compliance with all legal and regulatory requirements.
The Transport Manager will develop, implement, audit and manage all compliance systems and procedures, acting as the primary subject matter expert on transport legislation and providing critical guidance to the operational teams.

What will you be doing?
- Acting as the nominated Transport Manager, fulfilling all statutory duties required to maintain the Company’s Operator’s Licence and uphold its undertakings to the Traffic Commissioner
- Ensuring all transport operations comply fully with drivers’ hours regulations, the Working Time Directive, and all other transport legislation
- Managing, auditing, and maintaining all systems for compliance, including tachograph analysis, driver licence checking, and maintenance scheduling
- Providing compliance-related guidance and support to the Service Delivery Managers and Service Delivery Supervisors to ensure their daily operational plan is executed legally
- Reporting fleet compliance issues to the Senior Contract Manager to ensure planning can be organised to continue the service efficiently
- Overseeing and auditing the systems for vehicle inspection, repair, and maintenance, ensuring all assets are kept in a roadworthy condition and that all records are accurate and complete
- Working closely with maintenance providers to ensure the quality and compliance of all work performed on the fleet, verifying that all procedures meet legislative standards, seeking advice and guidance from the Fleet Engineering team as required
- Developing and overseeing delivery of compliance-related training, toolbox talks and communications to drivers and management on topics such as drivers’ hours, walkaround checks and safe loading
- Managing and communicating to the Fleet Compliance team any response to roadside enforcement stops or prohibitions, conducting internal investigations and implementing corrective actions to prevent recurrence
- Maintaining all legally required transport records for drivers and vehicles, ensuring they are accurate, up to date, and available for inspection by regulatory bodies at any time
- Protecting the Company’s ability to trade by ensuring unwavering compliance with all relevant legislation, especially concerning Health and Safety and the ‘Duty of Care’
- Reporting on compliance KPIs to the Senior Contract Manager, highlighting any risks or areas for improvement
About you
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- A Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) in National Road Haulage (essential)
- Experience in a dedicated transport compliance role, with a deep understanding of Operator Licensing
- Demonstrable skill in implementing and auditing compliance systems (e.g., tachograph analysis, maintenance planning)
- Evidence of the ability to influence and guide operational teams on matters of compliance and safety within a unionised workforce
- Satisfactory completion of the relevant Competency Management System modules
- Completion of all other training as defined within the Training Matrix
