Trainee Site Operative - Learn a Trade

We have a unique opportunity for a Trainee Thrust Boring Site Operative to join our client on a full-time permanent basis. This is not your typical local job – it’s a specialist trade role that will see you travelling across the UK, working long days, and regularly staying away from home.

Summary of the Trainee Thrust Boring Site Operative role 

Salary: £32,500
Location: Olney (must be willing to travel across the UK)
Type of Contract: Permanent   
Hours: 50 hour working week, nights away and some weekend working

This role is for you if you want:

• To learn a specialist underground pipe installation trade that very few people are trained in.
• To gain valuable skills from experienced drillers, with career progression opportunities.
• To travel nationally (you’ll be working on varied projects across the country).
• Something different - no two weeks are the same and local work is not guaranteed.

Responsibilities of the Trainee Thrust Boring Site Operative

• Travel across the UK, including extensive overnight stays.
• Assist lead drillers with the setup, operation, and maintenance of thrust boring equipment.
• Install underground pipes and conduits using specialist machinery.
• Work on sites nationwide, often involving early starts, long days, and overnight stays.
• Follow strict health & safety practices on all projects.

Requirements for a successful Trainee Thrust Boring Site Operative

• Full UK driving licence (must be able to drive a van).
• Physically fit, hardworking, and willing to work long hours.
• Comfortable travelling nationwide and staying away from home during the week.
• Experience in construction is an advantage but not essential – willingness to learn is key.
• CSCS/CPCS card
