Madisons Recruitment are seeking an ambitious and motivated Trainee Quantity Surveyor to join our commercial team and develop their career within the construction industry. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a keen interest in cost management and construction to gain hands-on experience, full training, and support from experienced professionals.
Responsibilities
- Assist in preparing monthly WIP analysis, CVRs, and cash flow reports under the guidance of senior commercial staff.
- Support in engaging with subcontractors to gather quotes and help negotiate contract agreements.
- Learn how to review and prepare contracts for director approval and signature.Work alongside Contracts Managers to monitor subcontractor performance and competency.
- Help maintain tender margins by supporting procurement of materials and subcontractors.
- Gain experience in administering commercial aspects of projects in line with contract requirements.
- Assist in preparing applications for payment and supporting with final account agreements.
- Help process subcontractor payments and maintain accurate project financial records.
- Contribute to dashboard reports and key commercial data tracking.
- Support the team in identifying project risks and learn how to escalate them appropriately.
- Attend project and site meetings, representing the commercial team when required.
- Follow internal commercial procedures and learn to manage project variations and early warnings.
- Shadow senior surveyors to gain experience in cost management, claims, and dispute resolution.
- Provide support to estimators and assist with tendering activities.
- Learn and adopt industry best practices while gaining exposure to contract legislation.
Requirements
- Studying towards or recently completed a degree/HND in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or a related subject.
- Strong interest in construction, cost management, and contracts.
- Excellent numerical, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficient in MS Office (Excel, Word, Outlook); experience with QS software is an advantage but not essential.
- Good communication skills with the ability to work as part of a team.
- Eagerness to learn, attention to detail, and a proactive approach to tasks.
