Trainee Field-Based Engineer

We are seeking a motivated and hands-on Trainee Field-Based Engineer to join our engineering team.
This entry-level position is ideal for someone looking to develop a long-term career in mechanical and multi-skilled engineering. You will primarily support experienced engineers to gain experience, assisting with mechanical repairs, installations, and servicing. You''ll learn the ropes through practical on-the-job experience and structured training, both in-house and via external providers, with a focus on hydraulics, pneumatics, and basic electrical systems.
Key Responsibilities:

• Support senior engineers on-site with installation, maintenance, and repair tasks
• Assist with mechanical assembly, fault finding, and routine servicing
• Maintain a safe and organised working environment
• Attend internal and external training to build core technical skills
• Accurately complete job records, timesheets, and service reports
• Travel to customer sites, occasionally staying away from home.

Requirements:

• Keen interest in engineering, mechanics, or maintenance
• Practical, hands-on approach to work
• Good communication and teamwork skills
• Ability to document what you can see onto a tablet/PDA
• Willingness to learn and complete formal training courses
• Reliable, punctual, and professional attitude
• Full UK driving licence
• Flexibility to travel and occasionally work unsociable hours or stay overnight

• Structured training programme covering hydraulics, pneumatics, and electrics
• Mentorship from experienced engineers in the field
• Long-term progression into fully qualified Field Service Engineer or Multi-Skilled Engineer role
