Traffic Signal Engineer
We are looking for a Traffic Signal Engineer to support the management, design, and maintenance of signalised highway assets. This role plays a key part in ensuring the safe and efficient operation of traffic signal systems while delivering improvement and maintenance schemes across the road network.

Key Responsibilities
·Design and deliver traffic signal improvement and maintenance schemes using recognised signal design software.
·Manage and coordinate the installation, operation, and maintenance of traffic signal assets and electronic highway monitoring equipment.
·Review and assess planning applications, signalling strategies, and traffic modelling outputs.
·Undertake technical approvals, design checks, and site inspections for signalised junctions and related infrastructure.
·Administer and manage traffic signal maintenance contracts, including contractor coordination and performance monitoring.
·Prepare design drawings, specifications, schedules, and bills of quantities for signal schemes.
·Ensure all works comply with highway legislation, electrical standards, CDM regulations, and relevant industry guidance.
·Maintain and develop traffic signal asset registers and monitoring systems.
·Manage signal fault reporting systems and ensure timely fault resolution.
·Provide professional engineering advice to internal teams, stakeholders, and external partners.
·Contribute to asset management strategies, performance monitoring, and long-term investment planning.

Requirements
·Degree (Level 6) in Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related discipline, or equivalent experience.
·Strong experience in traffic signal design, management, and operation.
·Knowledge of relevant standards including DMRB, MCHW, and traffic signal guidance.
·Experience with MOVA and SCOOT traffic signal control systems.
·Understanding of highway maintenance, street works legislation, and health & safety regulations including CDM.
·Experience managing contractors, consultants, and maintenance programmes.
·Ability to analyse technical data, develop engineering solutions, and manage project delivery.
·Strong communication skills with the ability to provide technical advice to stakeholders.
·Proficiency in signal design software, databases, and Microsoft Office tools.

Desirable
·Membership of a relevant professional body (e.g. engineering institution).
·Working towards or holding EngTech, IEng, or CEng status.
·Experience working within highway asset management frameworks and performance monitoring systems.
