Traffic & Road Safety Team Leader
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Traffic & Road Safety Team Leader to come and join a busy council in the Manchester area on an initial 12 month contract basis.
The main duties of the experienced Traffic & Road Safety Team Leader are:
- Lead and manage a Traffic and Road Safety team, ensuring effective delivery of projects and day-to-day operational activities.
- Develop and implement strategic and operational plans for traffic management and road safety initiatives.
- Provide expert technical advice on highways, traffic engineering, transport planning, and road safety matters.
- Oversee the planning, design, and delivery of traffic management schemes, road safety improvements, and highway projects.
- Develop and implement processes for accident data collection, analysis, reporting, and performance monitoring.
- Analyse traffic data, collision statistics, congestion issues, and network performance to identify priorities and recommend improvements.
- Manage workload allocation and ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to required standards.
- Work collaboratively with internal departments, external organisations, contractors, and stakeholders to deliver transport and highway objectives.
- Support the development of transport strategies, traffic modelling, construction management plans, road closures, and servicing strategies.
- Develop and maintain programmes aimed at improving road safety, reducing congestion, and encouraging sustainable travel.
- Lead initiatives to improve road safety around schools, including parking management, speed reduction measures, and active travel schemes.
- Manage cycling education and training programmes, including securing funding, procuring services, and monitoring delivery.
- Assess requests for highway improvements, including resident parking schemes, waiting restrictions, junction improvements, and traffic calming measures.
- Develop prioritisation criteria for highway improvement schemes based on safety, demand, network performance, and community needs.
- Maintain records of network issues, congestion hotspots, collision locations, and proposed improvement schemes.
- Work with planning and development teams to ensure new developments include appropriate highway and traffic mitigation measures.
- Produce reports, business cases, and technical recommendations to support decision-making and project approval.
- Ensure compliance with relevant highways legislation, engineering standards, health and safety requirements, and best practice guidance.
- Monitor team performance, set objectives, conduct appraisals, and support staff development and continuous improvement.
- Manage financial and operational resources effectively to achieve service objectives.
- Build and maintain positive relationships with communities, stakeholders, and partner organisations to support successful project delivery.
- Promote continuous improvement by identifying opportunities to enhance processes, services, and operational performance.
- Ensure equality, diversity, and inclusion are embedded in service delivery and team management.
- Keep up to date with changes in legislation, policy, industry standards, and emerging technologies relevant to highways, traffic, and road safety.
