Availability Window

Our availability windows are shown in the table below. We will schedule your contracted hours within these times and you will have 3 weeks’ notice of exactly when your shifts will be. We are happy to support flexibility; if your available times match closely but not exactly to the advertised times, we would still love to hear from you.Days and times: Wed 22:00 to Thu 07:00; Thu 22:00 to Fri 07:00; Fri 22:00 to Sat 07:00; Sat 22:00 to Sun 07:00.Our Shift Leader rate of pay starts from £14.76 an hour; this increases to £15.97 for stores inside the M25. For all hours worked between midnight and 6am you will receive an additional night premium of £2.35 per hour worked. Additional payments may also apply depending on location.It’s our policy to offer new colleagues joining us a minimum of 16 guaranteed hours each week, but if you’d like to work fewer hours (to a minimum of 12) we have opportunities for this too and would still love to hear from you.The information above describes expected availability and scheduling practices. You’ll face challenges as you oversee the store from the shop floor and strive to make things better for customers, colleagues and communities, every day.As a Shift Leader you’ll:Work in a fast-paced retail environment with varietyTake ownership of running duty shifts, coordinating the team to deliver a clean, well-stocked store that exceeds customer expectationsBe there for customers, listening to them and helping them find what they needLook for ways to improve service, including coaching colleagues and giving feedbackGuide and support colleagues in-store, keeping it a safe place to work and shopMaintain an understanding of store performance and assist managers in taking actions to improve operationsLead from the front and set a positive example for the teamPlease note that you need to be 18 or over to apply for this role.Responsibilities continuedCoordinating the store team to deliver an easy, fuss-free shopping experience for customersSupporting colleagues to deliver daily priorities and take regular breaksOpening and closing the store, and completing duty cover to ensure safetyBeing the go-to person for colleagues in the absence of a manager for day-to-day queriesKeeping the store clean, tidy, and well-presentedSupporting managers to coordinate seasonal, community and charity eventsContributing to a positive, inclusive team atmosphereProviding great customer service by listening to customers and putting them firstKeeping the team informed about communications, changes, or updatesStaying knowledgeable about store performance and seeking ways to improve operationsCoordinating store improvements and removing obstacles to serviceFollowing health and safety procedures and ensuring colleagues do the sameRecognising and celebrating colleagues who provide great serviceStrategic leadership expectationsTo be a great role model by delivering thoughtful customer service to meet needsTo build strong relationships with colleagues to foster an inclusive teamTo communicate clearly using different methods to keep the team informedTo lead in the absence of the Store ManagerTo be flexible, make good decisions, and handle change to serve customers and colleaguesTo motivate the team to perform beyond expectationsTo be curious and seek ideas to serve customers, communities, and the planetOur vision at Tesco is to become every customer’s favourite way to shop, with the core purpose to serve customers, communities and the planet a little better every day.
