Temporary Mechanical Planner
Fawkes & Reece are currently working with a leading Mechanical & Electrical contractor who are seeking an experienced Mechanical Planner to join their team on a major project based in Llantrisant.
This is an excellent opportunity to join a well-established contractor on a high-profile project, offering an initial contract of approximately 12 months, with the potential for an extension.
The Role
As the Mechanical Planner, you will play a key role in the successful planning and delivery of the project. Working closely with the project management, engineering and commercial teams, you will be responsible for developing, monitoring and maintaining detailed project programmes to ensure works are completed safely, efficiently and on schedule.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, update and maintain detailed project programmes from pre-construction through to project completion.
- Produce short-term and long-term programmes, progress reports and look-ahead schedules.
- Monitor project progress against the baseline programme and identify potential delays or risks.
- Work closely with project managers, site teams and subcontractors to ensure programmes remain achievable and up to date.
- Identify critical path activities and implement mitigation strategies where required.
- Prepare programme updates for client and internal meetings.
- Analyse programme performance and provide recommendations to improve project delivery.
- Support resource planning and sequencing of mechanical installation activities.
- Coordinate planning information across multiple disciplines to ensure efficient project delivery.
- Ensure planning activities align with contractual requirements and project milestones.
Requirements
- Proven experience as a Mechanical Planner within the Mechanical & Electrical (M&E) or Building Services sector.
- Previous experience working on large commercial, healthcare, industrial, pharmaceutical, manufacturing or data centre projects is highly desirable.
- Strong understanding of mechanical building services installations and construction methodologies.
- Excellent knowledge of project planning principles, sequencing and critical path analysis.
- Experience producing and managing construction programmes throughout the project lifecycle.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.
- Ability to work collaboratively with project teams while managing multiple priorities.
- High level of organisation and attention to detail.
Software & Technical Skills
- Proficient in Primavera P6 (essential).
- Experience using Microsoft Project is advantageous.
- Strong Microsoft Office skills, particularly Excel.
- Experience interpreting construction drawings, specifications and project documentation.
- Knowledge of NEC and JCT contracts would be beneficial.
Qualifications
- HNC/HND or Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services Engineering, Construction Management or a related discipline.
- Relevant planning or project management qualifications are advantageous.
- CSCS Card (where required).
