Job Description
Job PurposeTo manage a portfolio of intellectual property and commercialisation activities and work closely with colleagues, researchers and officials to support:Commercialisation of intellectual property assetsPromote industrial engagement by researchersSupport management of a reagents portfolio
Key Activities
Manage agreed projects relating to IP management and commercialisation resulting from research institutionsRegularly (at least once per week although more frequent attendance may be required based on business needs) attend sites in London, Cambridge and Harwell to provide face-to-face support to researchersWorking with legal and patent subcontractors to resolve IP and commercialisation casesGathering data and providing analysis to support development of simple business cases for IP commercialisationFacilitate and deliver core training for researchers on IP and CommercialisationWorking with internal and external legal advice to review collaboration agreement issuesEnsure appropriate management of IP for specific cases, working with patent agents when appropriateSupporting other team members with technology transfer activitiesSupport, as required, promotion of industrial partnershipsSupport, as required, management of the reagents portfolioSupport, as required, provision of entrepreneurial trainingSupport, as required, due diligence review of applications to funding schemes for IP and commercialisation related issuesSupport, as required, researcher applications to other funders for the IP and commercial sections
Qualifications
Required CriteriaDegree (BSc, MSc or PhD) qualified in life sciencesSignificant experience of working in a technology transfer role to commercialise complex IP and patent portfoliosExperience of commercialisation of intellectual property in the medical and life sciences areaSignificant experience of negotiating commercialisation licences and spin out creation with a wide range of end usersExperience of working with industry, researchers and government to identify mutually beneficial outcomes for commercialisation of IPAbility to communicate complex information regarding intellectual property and commercialisation to a range of audiences using appropriate style and format of messages
Desired Criteria
Experience of a customer facing service role with a wide range of active projects at any one timeExperience of working with external legal counsel and patent agents to resolve issues and ensure effective protection of IP assetsExperience of delivering IP related training to scientistsExperience of reviewing research funding applications and performing due diligence checks

This is a hybrid, office-based role with an expectation for all employees to attend our Victoria, London office, typically one day every week. This requirement may increase in line with business needs. The role will also require occasional travel to customer sites in Cambridge, London, and Oxfordshire.
