Technical Services Manager - Loughborough
ESS are recruiting for a Technical Services Manager to lead the NRC engineering requirements. The NRC is located on the Stanford Hall Rehabilitation Estate (SHRE) between Nottingham and Loughborough and is a new build facility which will house 70 inpatients and requires a very high-quality Maintenance Service which will support the safe and effective care and treatment of its Patients.
Ideally you will have experience working within the Health Sector and have a track history within public sector contracts.
Key Responsibilities .
Customer
Build strong relationships with the client, understanding their objectives and values.Act on customer insight to resolve issues and drive continuous improvement.Promote a positive brand perception and collaborative working environment.
People
Lead, inspire, and develop a high-performing team and supply chain partners.Implement succession and retention plans while nurturing talent and supporting development.Champion a culture of inclusion, wellbeing, and innovation.Ensure fair and consistent application of HR policies.
Health, Safety, Quality, And Sustainability
Promote a strong safety culture and compliance with Health, Safety and Environmental procedures.Deliver services to the agreed standards and external accreditations (e.g., ISO).Create a proactive, accident-free environment through effective systems and monitoring.Drive operational excellence and sustainability initiatives.
Financial And Commercial
Maximise financial performance, profit, and cash flow.Manage budgets, forecasts, and commercial risks in line with governance processes.Lead cost control, income recovery, and profit improvement plans.
Operations
Ensure compliance with all technical and contractual standards.Set up and manage asset management and maintenance systems (Synbiotix, SFG20, HTMs).Oversee the supply chain, ensuring competence and compliance.Act as Water Responsible Person in line with L8/HTM 04-01.Monitor estate condition, manage repairs, and advise on lifecycle requirements.Produce regular KPI and performance reports for the client.
Knowledge / Experience
Proven experience delivering in a similar role, ideally within healthcare, with a thorough understanding of Health Technical Memoranda.Strong background in facilities management and outsourced services, or relevant transferable experience from related sectors.Skilled in managing reactive and planned maintenance using SFG20 standards.Previous experience as a duty holder (Authorised Person or higher).Ability to diagnose faults and resolve issues on complex building systems in healthcare settings.Experience reviewing project and maintenance costs for efficiency and value.Line management of subcontractors to deliver high-quality services.Strong attention to detail with the ability to interpret technical data and engineering reports.Knowledge of statutory compliance and safety processes.Experience planning and scheduling complex maintenance projects effectively.Leadership experience in complex, multi-stakeholder environments.Evidence of developing and sustaining a customer-focused culture.Strong track record in financial and commercial management.Commitment to personal and team development.
Skills
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and negotiate.Strong critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.Skilled in building, leading, and motivating teams to deliver results.IT literate, with experience using Asset Management Systems.Commercially astute with strong operational awareness.Capable of prioritising workloads and delegating effectively.Excellent stakeholder management skills.
