Are you an experienced Estimator, Project Engineer, Contracts Engineer, or Engineering professional with a background in food processing, industrial engineering, or mechanical installations?
 
We are working with a well-established engineering business delivering bespoke installation, maintenance and engineering solutions into the food manufacturing and process industries. Due to continued growth, they are looking to appoint an experienced Technical Estimator to support the business through the preparation of accurate quotations and commercial proposals.
 
This is an excellent opportunity for an engineering-focused estimator who enjoys understanding customer requirements, reviewing technical information, producing detailed costings and working closely with internal teams to ensure projects are delivered successfully.
 
The Role
 
As a Technical Estimator, you will be responsible for managing the estimating process from initial customer enquiry through to quotation submission and project handover.
Working closely with customers, suppliers, engineers, procurement and project teams, you will ensure quotations are technically accurate, commercially competitive and aligned with customer requirements.
 
Key Responsibilities

• Review customer enquiries, specifications and technical information to understand project requirements
• Attend customer sites where required to gather information and support accurate estimating
• Prepare detailed quotations and costings for engineering projects
• Produce estimates covering labour, materials, subcontractors, equipment hire and associated costs
• Liaise with suppliers and subcontractors to obtain accurate pricing and lead times
• Develop scopes of work and ensure customer requirements are fully captured
• Work closely with engineering and project teams to ensure quotations are achievable and commercially viable
• Identify potential risks, technical challenges and cost implications
• Support project handover once orders are secured
• Maintain accurate estimating records and support continuous improvement of estimating processes
• Assist with cost reviews, project forecasting and commercial reporting
• Build and maintain strong relationships with customers and suppliers

The Candidate
 
We are looking for an experienced engineering professional with a strong technical understanding and previous experience within estimating, quotations, project engineering or contracts.
 
Essential Experience

• Previous experience as an Estimator, Technical Estimator, Project Engineer, Contracts Engineer or similar
• Strong mechanical engineering background
• Ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications and customer requirements
• Experience producing quotations and project costings
• Understanding of labour, materials and subcontractor pricing
• Experience working with engineering projects from enquiry through to delivery
• Strong customer-facing and communication skills
• Commercial awareness and attention to detail
• Ability to manage multiple enquiries and priorities

Desirable Experience

• Experience within food manufacturing, process engineering or industrial environments
• Knowledge of conveyors, production machinery, pipework, mechanical installation or factory projects
• Understanding of mechanical and electrical interfaces
• Experience working with RAMS, site requirements and Health & Safety documentation
• Engineering qualification (Mechanical, Electrical or related discipline)
