Overview

Join our dynamic Nature team as Technical Director in the UK and Ireland, with offices including Manchester, Leeds, Basingstoke, Birmingham, Newcastle, Glasgow, Cambridge, Dublin, Edinburgh, Nottingham, Bristol, and Liverpool (other locations across the UK may be considered). We operate a hybrid model, allowing in-office or remote work to suit project needs. The role involves shaping and driving the ecology team within UKandI, delivering ecological assessments and project management to ensure on-time, on-budget delivery to high standards. You will be a member of the wider ecology leadership team in UKandI, with client-facing responsibilities as well as coaching and mentoring colleagues. The work balances work winning, project management, and delivery.Our Nature team works on a mix of large infrastructure projects across energy, water, renewables, defence and transport sectors, alongside smaller local projects. The majority of projects are based in the UK and Ireland.We offer opportunities to support a variety of areas such as innovative survey techniques for species and habitats, data capture and reporting, work winning, project management, Habitats Regulations Assessments, and leadership and coaching opportunities. Our environment supports internal and external training within a nurturing mentoring framework.Responsibilities

Lead the planning and delivery of ecological inputs for both internal and external clientsProduce and technically review ecological assessments including Preliminary Ecological Appraisal; Protected Species Baseline Reports; Ecological Impact Assessments; Habitats Regulations Assessment; and Biodiversity Net Gain calculationsProvide technical leadership to deliver proportionate and pragmatic solutionsProject manage the ecology input into large schemesLead consultation and engagement with clients and key project stakeholders including planning authorities, statutory bodies and the publicContribute to the continued development of technical capabilities and embed innovation/researchLead the production of bids and tenders for ecological servicesMentor and support junior staff and peersIf you are passionate about innovation and turning bold ideas into reality, AECOM welcomes you to join our team. Degree (or equivalent) in ecology or an associated subjectMembership of an appropriate professional institution and working towards or obtained Chartered Ecologist or Chartered Environmentalist statusExcellent knowledge of relevant biodiversity legislation and policy, and reporting skillsExperience leading and managing biodiversity assessments (major planning applications and DCO submissions)Experience in managing projects, project budgets and leading stakeholder discussions, and bidding/tenderingExperience of reviewing/verifying technical work and supporting wider team membersWe celebrate diversity and welcome applications from all backgrounds and abilities.
