Technical Lead – TypeScript / Node.js / AWS

Location: Leeds – Hybrid, approximately 1 day per week onsite
Contract: Until 31 March 2027

Rate: Up to £485 per day (Inside IR35)


We are looking for an experienced Technical Lead to join a newly formed development team delivering a high-profile digital transformation programme within the healthcare sector.

This is a hands-on technical leadership role where you will work closely with architects, designers and engineers to take high-level requirements and turn them into secure, scalable and production-ready digital services.

The role has a strong focus on TypeScript, Node.js, AWS, APIs and microservices, with previous experience working with FHIR/HL7 and healthcare technology highly desirable.

The Role

As Technical Lead, you will:

• Provide strong technical leadership to a newly formed engineering team.
• Lead the design and development of back-end services using TypeScript and Node.js.
• Design and integrate RESTful APIs and microservices.
• Work closely with Technical Architects and Designers to translate requirements into technical solutions.
• Contribute to modern front-end applications using React, Angular or similar technologies.
• Build and deploy solutions within AWS environments.
• Champion clean, secure and maintainable engineering practices.
• Drive automated testing using Jest, Playwright or similar tools.
• Support CI/CD and automated deployment using GitHub Actions.
• Conduct code reviews, mentor engineers and influence technical decisions.
• Take solutions through the full lifecycle from design and development to testing and production deployment.

Key Skills & Experience

We are looking for candidates with strong experience in:

• TypeScript and Node.js
• Technical leadership / Lead Developer experience
• AWS
• RESTful APIs and microservices
• Full-stack development using React, Angular or similar
• Automated testing and test-driven engineering practices
• Jest and/or Playwright
• CI/CD and GitHub Actions
• SOLID principles and clean code
• Git and Agile development
• Mentoring and supporting other engineers

Experience within healthcare or digital health environments, particularly working with FHIR, HL7, healthcare APIs or interoperability standards, would be highly advantageous.

You should be a proactive self-starter who is comfortable taking ownership, providing technical direction and working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary Agile environment.
