Team Leader / Driver / Street Cleansing Operative – An exciting opportunity to join our friendly and passionate operations team. The role assists the Street Cleansing Supervisor in the day to day running of the Street Cleansing Department, including delegation of work, staff compliance with health and safety and risk assessments, ensuring staff complete the required paperwork, monitoring vehicle condition and cleanliness, quality control inspections and other duties that support Operational Services Management. It may involve direct supervision of operatives in the absence of the Street Cleansing Supervisor, and reporting to Operational Services Management any problems identified in connection with Street Cleansing Operations. The role may involve office-based work using basic IT systems (Word, Excel, Outlook), telephones and printers, and access to mobile tablet computers and smartphones to monitor the council’s online reporting system and provide updates to staff and customers as needed. The post holder will also provide advice, guidance and on-the-job training to other staff to meet service objectives. Undertake environmental street cleansing activities such as mechanical and manual sweeping, clearance and removal of litter, silt, leaves, weeds and other materials from pavements, precincts, road surfaces, grass verges, flower beds and other land as required by Operational Services Management.Responsibilities
Direct supervision of operatives in the absence of the Street Cleansing Supervisor, and reporting to Operational Services Management any problems identified in connection with Street Cleansing Operations.Use basic IT systems (Word, Excel, Outlook), telephones and printers; access and monitor the council’s online reporting system and provide work updates to staff and customers as needed.Provide advice, guidance and on the job training to other staff to meet service objectives.Undertake environmental street cleansing activities such as mechanical and manual sweeping, clearance and removal of litter, silt, leaves, weeds and other foreign materials from pavements, precincts, road surfaces, grass verges, flower beds and other land as required by Operational Services Management.Remove and dispose of unpleasant items including emptying litter and dog foul bins, removing faeces, and work outdoors in all weather conditions.Using hand tools and mechanical equipment to cut hedges, strim grass, cut back vegetation, clear weeds or undertake any other suitable work as required by Street Scene Management.Observe and follow all safe working practices; ensure compliance with relevant legislation and promptly report any hazards to Street Scene management; cooperate with the Council’s Health and Safety Officer and Street Scene management on health and safety matters.Complete necessary timesheets, vehicle check sheets, defect report sheets and other documentation as required by Streetscene management, Department of Transport, Health and Safety Executive and Department of the Environment.The normal working week includes Saturdays on a rota basis (normally once every 10 weeks); additional Saturdays may be required to cover holidays or sickness. If you are unavailable for a planned Saturday due to holiday requests, you must arrange cover with colleagues before your holiday is authorized.Qualifications and Requirements
The post holder will be required to hold a current UK driving licence with a minimum of class B, BE, C1 categories and no more than six penalty points.The applicant should hold a chemical application license such as NPTC, PA1, PA6A or be prepared to obtain a chemical application license within 12 months of starting the position.Be competent in reading and understanding the chemical label, calibrating the applicator, mixing the chemical solution and applying the chemical at the correct dosage; the main chemicals used by the Street Cleansing section will be Glyphosate-based weed killers.Willingness and ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.Ability to operate and maintain basic hand tools and mechanical equipment used in cleansing operations.Equality, Diversity and Recruitment
