We are currently recruiting for a Teaching Assistant to join one of our specialist schools starting in September. This is a highly rewarding and enjoyable position, where no two days are the same. You will be working 1:1 and in small groups with students to improve their confidence and behaviour; creating a safe and stimulating space for learning. This is a specialist provision so all learners will have SEN and complex needs including but not limited to Autism. This is an award winning school supporting primary and secondary aged learners. This role involves a wide range of duties:

  • Plan and deliver programmes of 1:1 support in and out of class to develop social and friendship skills or to support the teacher in whole class subject delivery.
  • Support and encourage the behaviour and emotional development of students.
  • Liaise with teachers and other staff about the needs and progress of students.
  • Promote the welfare and safeguarding of young people at all times.
  • Work as part of a multidisciplinary and supportive team with all staff across the school.
  • Ensure that individual Education, Health and Care Plans are used to set specific targets for students.
  • Guide and mentor student''s so that targeted, measurable and significant improvement is secured.
  • Work in partnership with the SENCO to ensure regular high quality and frequent communication between the school and the home so that parents are involved and students'' attitudes to learning is maximised.

Key skills and attributes:

  • Experience working with children.
  • GCSE in Maths and English - pass grade
  • Ability to motivate children.
  • Clear and concise written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to work sensitively with a variety of people.
  • Able to quickly engage and build appropriate relationships with children.
  • A commitment to equality and diversity.
  • Willing & quick to learn new skills & procedures.
  • A good sense of humour!
