Teaching Assistant

Location: Watford
Start Date: ASAP
Contract: Permanent
Hours: 32.5 hours per week, term time only + 5 INSET days
Reporting to: SENCO

About the Role

A secondary school in Watford is looking for a committed and caring Teaching Assistant to join their supportive team on a permanent basis.

The successful candidate will work closely with students to help remove barriers to learning, support their academic and personal development, and promote their confidence, independence and wellbeing.

Main Duties

• Support students to access lessons and complete classroom tasks.
• Provide 1:1 and small-group support where required.
• Help differentiate learning to meet individual needs.
• Support the development of literacy, numeracy, communication and social skills.
• Monitor students'' attention, concentration, behaviour and emotional wellbeing.
• Support students with their individual education plans.
• Encourage positive interaction with peers and participation in group activities.
• Promote independence, confidence and positive learning behaviours.
• Act as a key worker and point of contact for allocated students.
• Work closely with teachers, the SENCO and other professionals to monitor progress.
• Attend relevant meetings, training and INSET sessions.

Requirements

• Experience working with children or young people, ideally within an educational setting.
• GCSEs or equivalent in English and Maths, or relevant experience.
• Good organisational and communication skills.
• Ability to remain calm and use initiative.
• A patient, flexible and supportive approach.
• Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
• Good IT skills.
• A genuine commitment to supporting young people and helping them achieve their potential.

Enhanced DBS check and references required.
